Are you interested in leading the development of systems that safeguard AWS customers and their data from evolving threats? The AWS Trust & Safety (T&S) team is seeking a Senior System Development Manager to lead a new engineering function and help shape the future of trust and safety at scale.

As the Sr. System Development Manager, you'll lead and grow an engineering function focused on building scalable systems that improve efficiency of response and protect AWS from known and emerging abuse threats. You'll be responsible for setting direction, hiring and developing top talent, and partnering across the company to deliver durable technical solutions in a fast-moving environment.

Own technical strategy and execution across multiple workstreams, delivering measurable outcomes against team goals

Collaborate with stakeholders across T&S, Security, and Product to translate safety needs into sustainable technical solutions

Accelerate the adoption of GenAI, machine learning, and automation to reduce manual toil and improve detection accuracy

Take ownership of existing critical services and ensure their long-term reliability, scalability, and operational excellence

Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, security, operations, and leadership stakeholders

Establish engineering best practices, mechanisms for scale, and a culture of high ownership and technical excellence from the ground up

Define and track key metrics to measure team impact, system health, and threat-response effectiveness

About the Team

AWS Trust & Safety is responsible for protecting AWS infrastructure and customers from abuse, fraud, and illegal content. We operate at massive scale - responding to threats across the full breadth of AWS services - and are investing in next-generation engineering capabilities to stay ahead of evolving risks.

This role sits at the center of that investment: building the engineering function that will define how T&S detects, responds to, and prevents abuse for years to come.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

- Knowledge of infrastructure automation delivered through the software development lifecycle in an API-enabled environment, including agile development, software architecture/patterns, and modern cloud services

- Knowledge of the tools of the trade, including a variety of modern programming languages (Rust, Java, C/C++), and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system

- Experience in planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software

- Experience delivering large-scale infrastructure products that support Tier-1 mission critical services with a focus on privacy, security, availability, and efficiency

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of managing managers experience

- 10+ years of direct work with cloud hosting technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.) experience

- Experience directly working with cloud hosting technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)

- Experience in managing managers

- Experience with AWS platforms, services, and design patterns

- Experience with distributed systems at scale

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
