Full Job Description
Senior Systems & Classical Computer Vision Engineer (C/C++)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems & Classical Computer Vision Engineer to join our engineering team in Charlestown, MA. This role sits at the intersection of classical 3D computer vision, hardware orchestration, and complex system heuristics.

About Our Team: We are a lean, agile engineering team. Because we are small, we operate with a "Jack of all trades" mindset. You won't just be writing isolated algorithms; you will wear multiple hats-owning the code from low-level serial communication up to internal diagnostic tools, and occasionally helping out with deployment pipelines or collaborating directly with field technicians.

Responsibilities

Maintain & Optimize Core Software: Own, debug, and optimize robust embedded and desktop software built for Linux environments.

Advance 3D Vision Solutions: Design and maintain classical computer vision, 3D point cloud processing, and image processing algorithms for spatial measurement.

Orchestrate Hardware & Peripherals: Develop and maintain reliable communication layers for external devices like weight scales, RFID readers, and depth sensors.

Handle Complex System Heuristics: Implement and refine edge-case logic, state machines, and timing mechanisms to ensure flawless hardware synchronization.

Build Internal Tools: Create diagnostic utilities for algorithm testing, image quality evaluation, and field-data validation.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with field technicians to resolve live production issues, collaborate with QA to build test plans, and sync with management on product roadmaps.

Technical Requirements

C/C++ Mastery: Deep experience building, debugging, and maintaining production-grade software in C and C++ within Linux environments.

Classical & 3D Computer Vision: Proven experience using classical CV techniques (via OpenCV) alongside 3D point clouds, stereo vision, or depth sensors (e.g., PCL).

Concurrency & Systems Programming: Strong grasp of multi-threading, asynchronous I/O, and concurrency control.

Hardware Integration: Practical experience with low-level communication protocols (RS- 232, RS-485, USB/HID, TCP/IP sockets) to interface with physical peripherals.

Deterministic Logic: Experience implementing complex, rule-based heuristics and hardware state machines.

Nice-to-Have Skills

Web Stack: Experience with PHP and JavaScript for maintaining or building internal dashboards, configuration portals, or tooling.

CI/CD Automation: Experience with build tools and automation servers like Jenkins to support our release pipeline.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Mindset: A versatile problem-solver comfortable moving between different layers of software and hardware; strong foundational knowledge of linear algebra and spatial geometry.

At Rice Lake Weighing Systems, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the growth and direction of an important product segment within a global organization. RLWS is a successful, energetic, customer-driven organization that offers competitive wages, great working conditions, medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, disability, life, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, 401k & employer matching, and wellness benefit programs.
