SummarySenior Systems Analyst 1 gather and analyze information for the purpose of developing and modifying data processing systems in a variety of subject matter fields. Emphasis of the work is on defining problems and systems objectives, documentation of fact-finding, analysis of results, assurance of cost effectiveness of recommendations made and preparation of findings, recommendations and specifications in formal reports and oral presentations. Additional responsibilities include communication with application programmers in defining system and program specifications and ensuring that programmers have a thorough knowledge of these requirements. Incumbents are subject to assignment in a variety of subject matter areas, and may serve as team leaders in the implementation of major systems. They must also exercise a high degree of technical judgment and initiative in applying probability theory and integrating management information and forecasting systems as well as a high degree of ability in communication skills. Supervision is received from a technical superior who reviews work for achievement of desired results and provides assistance in analysis and user communications as needed.
Responsibilities- Meets with various management and supervisory personnel as assigned to define requirements for analytical studies; discusses and evaluates management needs, objectives and goals susceptible to systems solution.
- Plans and conducts fact-finding interviews to gather information; applies current state-of-the-art technology to effect solution of problems; arrives at design objectives and decisions.
- Prepares system specifications; develops system modification, testing and conversion plans.
- Coordinates with programming staffs in defining system and program specifications. Supervises team preparation of studies including gathering of information and preparation of systems proposals, as assigned.
- Performs related work as required.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of advanced computer software and hardware including programming languages, software packages and modern peripheral equipment.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of symbolic logic and the principles of deductive reasoning.
- Effectively applies considerable knowledge of mathematics, mathematical relationships, probability theory and business statistics.
- Demonstrates considerable knowledge of basic governmental accounting and operational procedures and sources of available data.
- Interprets diagrammatic representations of work flow with spatial perception.
- Demonstrates ability to work to precision and establish standards for accuracy.

ExperienceGenerally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
