Senior Systems Administrator to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of our infrastructure in one of our labs supporting the US Army Aviation and Missile Center. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable racking a server in a data center, hardening an OS to government standards, and interfacing directly with our customers to solve complex technical challenges. You will be responsible for ensuring our systems are performant, secure, and scalable, while providing critical on-site support during deployment phases at government test sites.
Key Responsibilities:Systems & Virtualization- Virtualization & Containers: Deploy and manage virtualized workloads using KubeVirt and support deployment of containerized applications in Podman.
- OS Administration: Install, configure, and maintain both Linux (RHEL/Rocky) and Windows Server environments.
- System Design: Interpret and contribute to system-level design documents to ensure infrastructure aligns with architectural goals.
Security & Compliance:- STIG Implementation: Lead the hardening of primarily RHEL-based hosts according to DISA STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides).
- Compliance Auditing: Perform regular vulnerability scans and remediation efforts to maintain a secure posture for government delivery.
Customer Support & Field Operations:- Customer Interface: Serve as a technical point of contact for customers, translating complex technical requirements into actionable infrastructure tasks.
- User Support: Provide Tier 2/3 support for end-users to resolve common system and connectivity issues.
- Field Engineering:
Network & Hardware Management:- Physical Deployment: Occasionally perform physical installation of servers, switches, and storage arrays into racks, including cabling and power management.
- Network Configuration: Configure and maintain network connectivity, VLANs, and routing.
- Security Perimeter: Manage and maintain firewalls to ensure secure traffic flow and perimeter defense.
Required Qualifications:- US Citizenship.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in Systems Administration or Network Engineering.
- Certifications: DoW 8140 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CCNA, or RHCSA).
- Government Experience: Prior experience working within DoD or Federal civilian environments.
- Hardware: Proven experience with selecting appropriate hardware based on business requirements.
- Networking: Hands-on experience with firewalls and switch configuration.
- OS Proficiency: Strong command of both Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Security: Direct experience applying DISA STIGs to hosts and network devices.
- Modern Tooling: Experience with zero clients and/or virtualization (KubeVirt or Kubernetes).
- Soft Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and government customers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (for racking equipment).
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Clearance: Active security clearance (Secret or higher)
Preferred Qualifications:- Automation: Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or Bash/PowerShell scripting to automate STIG compliance and deployments.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology).
