The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC's Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project based in Scarborough, Aecon is looking for a qualified Senior Superintendent to join our team. This role requires full-time, on-site presence at 20 Nugget Ave, Scarborough ON.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, subcontractors, and consultants in compliance with the provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs, and mentorship with crew.
  • Oversee all on-site construction activities on a daily basis and approve daily production records, reporting on work progress.
  • Provide senior field leadership for station construction activities within a live urban environment, including coordination with utilities, and adjacent stakeholders.
  • Assure construction is in compliance with design requirements.
  • Track and report project quality control, resource requirements, and customer or labour relations.
  • Ensure project materials and workmanship meet the project quality standards.
  • Ensure Superintendent(s) are in compliance with all assignments, project policies, and procedures.
  • Direct Superintendent(s) on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent(s), Foreman, and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Translate drawings, specifications, and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work for complex station and urban transit construction, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks, and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
  • Work with the Station Construction Manager to identify equipment and labour resource requirements and to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching, and team building.
  • Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment, and assets.
  • Support an inclusive employee relationship culture and be accountable for adherence to policies / collective agreements that ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment for all staff and union craft employees.
  • This role may require lifting, carrying, or moving materials up to 50 lbs on occasion.

What You Bring to The Team:

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in heavy civil / construction projects, including significant experience on metro, subway, LRT, or urban transit infrastructure projects, with 5 years' experience supervising staff and subcontractors.
  • Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary operations team including superintendents, foremen, project coordinators, field engineers, and unionized craft employees.
  • Demonstrated experience working within transit-project constraints such as limited access, staged construction, live operations interfaces, and dense urban environments.
  • Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
  • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience managing work in a self-performing work environment.
