Job Description

Terracon is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead project management efforts, support proposal preparation, perform structural evaluations, develop repair and remediation solutions, and oversee the delivery of engineering services for commercial, institutional, and specialty facilities.

The Senior Structural Engineer will provide technical leadership in structural analysis and design, guide the development of remediation strategies, and ensure the quality and consistency of engineering deliverables while coordinating with internal teams and clients.

Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for existing or proposed projects in a variety of sectors, including for example public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities
  • Technical / Engineering
  • Perform structural assessments of existing facilities, including identification of deficiencies and evaluation of structural performance
  • Prepare engineering reports documenting observations, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Develop conceptual and detailed structural remediation and repair designs
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations supporting design and evaluation efforts
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, and details for repair and retrofit projects
  • Provide opinions of probable cost for structural repairs and improvements
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for structural design and rehabilitation projects, as applicable
    Proposal Preparation & Business Development
  • Lead and support proposal development, including scope definition, technical approach, and fee development
  • Coordinate with internal teams to prepare competitive and technically sound proposals
  • Support client engagement activities, including meetings, presentations, and relationship development
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and assist with business growth initiatives
    Project Management
  • Manage structural engineering projects from initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight
  • Serve as primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects
  • Coordinate project teams and resources across multi-disciplinary efforts
  • Monitor project performance, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Perform QA/QC review of deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and consistency
  • Mentor junior staff and support team development


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
  • Minimum 10+ years of structural engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience with structural assessments, failure analysis, and repair design
  • Strong understanding of structural systems, materials, and load paths
  • Proficiency with applicable codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, etc.)
  • Experience preparing structural calculations and construction documents
  • Experience managing projects and interacting directly with clients
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience with structural rehabilitation, retrofit design, and building envelope coordination
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities
  • Existing client relationships and business development experience
  • Experience leading proposals and managing multiple concurrent projects


Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Combination of office and field work environments
  • Ability to perform site visits, including access to roofs, elevated areas, and confined spaces
  • Occasional travel to project locations
  • Ability to carry field equipment and perform visual assessments
