Your Opportunity
The Senior Structural Engineer applies buildings structural engineering principles and client service skills to cultivate and deliver a variety of project types and complexity including federal, industrial, research and development, education, and multiple other sectors. The Senior Structural Engineer has overall staff management responsibility for a structural engineering project delivery team which may consist of more junior project managers, designers, and CAD/Revit production staff. This individual welcomes opportunities and challenges within a project and applies consulting skills into each client interaction. The Senior Structural Engineer adds value while helping us differentiate from other firms and position itself as an innovator in the industry.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Successfully manages projects of significant scope, complexity, and revenue budget.
  • Applies buildings engineering and project management knowledge while leading cross-functional resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budgets.
  • Holds project team members accountable for deliverables.
  • Meets technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary and client service objectives for each project.
  • Applies strong structural engineering skills, experience and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design, for building projects.
  • Manages and plans the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for structural engineering projects.
  • Periodically acts as QC reviewer on projects.
  • Nurtures existing client relationships.
  • Proactively represents firm and pursues opportunities for new business.
  • Develops and delivers client presentations.
  • Collaborates with the Structural Principal of the business center on staffing, workforce planning and the hiring process.
  • Shares knowledge with others by serving as a trainer and resource.
  • Directly manages and mentor's others, engaging, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Supervises local staff of two and helps with organic growth of department. "

  • Successful history of collaboration and teaming with structural contractors on a variety of complex projects.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought related to the Structural Discipline.
  • Detailed understanding of all phases of structural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • To apply structural standards and codes, to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.
  • Understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards.
  • To produce at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.
  • To participate in project team setting.
  • To check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage team to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Newforma, recent modeling software.
  • Expertise managing projects, consulting with clients, managing teams and coordination among structural, architecture and other building engineering disciplines.
  • Understanding and implementation of the principles of project management.
  • Ability to manage clients, projects, fee, scope, and teams to achieve budget, schedule and deliverable objectives while meeting key stakeholder critical success factors.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to produce, project-related documents and documentation standards required of a Project Manager.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • A commanding knowledge of technical issues supporting delivered design services.
  • Deep understanding and working knowledge the following building systems: steel framing including lateral systems for seismic (braced frames, BRBF, SPSW, etc.), concrete framing including lateral systems for seismic (shear walls and moment frames), wood framing, timber.
  • Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to structural concepts and ideas into projects.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, coach and direct staff of varying levels and skillsets.
  • Ability to prioritize project needs and staff workloads.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office-Excel, Bluebeam, ETABS, SAP2000, RAM, and/or RISA.
  • Functional knowledge of recent versions of Revit.
    Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering plus 15+ years related professional experience.
    • MA Professional Engineering license required, or the ability to obtain within 6 months from the date of employment.
    • LEED AP Credential is preferred. Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
