Provides structural engineeringexpertisein projects from the quote stage to final engineering. Typical projects include the design and installation of structural steel platforms, conveyor support structures, elevated walkways, industrial steel storage rack and shelving, and custom designed products for large distribution centers.Manage a team of up to three direct reports.Offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and advancement.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Serve as lead engineer on medium to large projects
Design functionReview awarded project scope, specifications, and available budgetsDevelop conceptual 3D structural layouts using RevitCoordinate with other disciplines to optimize structure layouts and features to seamlessly integrate structures with mechanical equipment and the buildingPerform preliminary analysis on structural frame to establish steel profiles; incorporate into preliminary 3D structural layoutsPresent preliminary layouts to Client for review, further design iterations and conceptual approval; ensure structure designs are optimized to support Client operational needsDevelop and document final structure drawings for formal approval using Revit and AutoCADCoordinate with designated Engineer-of-Record to finalize structure frame design for permitting and construction
Execution functionProject scheduleWork with Project Management to establish and track key milestonesEnsure material procurement and detailing activities are timed to meet onsite date requirements
Project budgetMonitor engineering progress and material purchasing commitments to maintain project budgetsRaise awareness to change order conditions as scope evolves over project life cycleDevelop cost estimates for change order conditions as needed
Steel detailing coordinationConduct and document project handoff to detailing teamMonitor detailing progress to ensure timely releases to structural fabricationCheck fabrication details for fitment, completeness and adherence to project specifications
Travel to jobsites occasionally
Manages a team of up to three direct reports
Trains and reviews the work of Structural Engineers and Structural Designers
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor27s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
Preferred 7 years of engineering experience
Previousmaterial handling or structural steel detailing experience a plus
Previousmanagement experience a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
Proficient inRevit andAutoCAD,working knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience withAdvance Steela plus
Ability to handle multiple project assignments and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced results-oriented environment
Ability to learn the material handling business andassistacross teams and divisions
Ability tointerface effectively within-house and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and installers.
