ResponsibilitiesThis position requires performing structural engineering design and analysis and operating in or supporting Responsible Charge. The Senior Structural Engineer serves as a technical leader within the Design & Engineering team, providing oversight, resolving complex challenges, and helping guide engineering efforts across multiple projects.
This position is well suited for an experienced engineer who can lead technical scopes, make sound engineering decisions in complex situations, and collaborate closely with operations, preconstruction, and project teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions. This position operates in or directly supports Responsible Charge, depending on project needs and licensing requirements.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Perform structural engineering design of temporary structures used in the construction and demolition of structures, including shoring, reshoring, falsework, formwork, crane foundations, crane tie-back connections, and temporary stability bracing
- Perform structural engineering design for construction procedures, including erection plans, demolition sequencing, jacking operations, and post-tensioning sequences
- Perform structural evaluation of existing and proposed structures for temporary loads and conditions, including equipment loading, hoisting, and temporary attachments to permanent works
- Operate in Responsible Charge (EOR) for engineering deliverables, including directing the efforts of engineering staff and sealing calculations, reports, and plans in accordance with applicable licensing requirements
- Perform quality control reviews of engineering work prepared by internal staff and external consultants, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Provide technical oversight and direction across multiple projects, including identifying risks, evaluating alternatives, and determining appropriate engineering approaches
- Define appropriate engineering scope for projects and clearly communicate expectations, risks, and limitations to project teams
- Guide project teams on engineering best practices, constructability considerations, and risk mitigation strategies
- Support preconstruction efforts by evaluating design concepts, identifying risks, and contributing to means and methods development
- Support operations teams by evaluating field issues, including non-conforming work, and developing or reviewing remediation strategies
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, including providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Contribute to the development and implementation of engineering standards, procedures, and tools to improve consistency and efficiency across the department
- Support legal and operations teams by providing technical expertise in dispute resolution, claims, or investigations as required

Education, Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field\
- Typically 6-14+ years of structural engineering and design experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate in Responsible Charge for engineering deliverables
- Advanced knowledge of applicable codes, including IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWC, and AISI
- Expertise in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, structural steel, cold-formed steel, timber, masonry, and foundation systems
- Strong engineering judgment and decision-making capability, particularly in high-risk or ambiguous situations
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead technical discussions and influence project teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams while managing competing priorities
- Proficient in structural analysis, modeling, and drafting software
- Willingness to travel as required
