This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving automation, tooling, integrations, and operational capabilities that support reliable infrastructure services. The ideal candidate has a foundation in software development, scripting, Linux, APIs, CI/CD, troubleshooting, and DevOps practices, with an interest in building practical tools that improve service delivery, monitoring, reporting, and operational efficiency. Prior storage experience, including object storage, SAN, Cloudian HyperStore, or related storage technologies, is helpful but not required. You will work as part of the Storage squad within the Platform Tribe, collaborating with senior engineers, application teams, security, and operations teams to build automation and tooling that supports reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure services. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys coding, problem solving, improving manual processes, and learning enterprise infrastructure through development-focused work.
About the team
The Storage squad is part of the Platform Tribe. Our squad delivers and operates VMware and storage infrastructure for Swift critical applications, with a strong focus on automation, tooling, integrations, and operational efficiency.

What to Expect:
In this role you will:
Develop and maintain scripts, utilities, and automation workflows that reduce manual effort and improve infrastructure service delivery
Build and enhance internal tools, dashboards, reports, and self-service capabilities to support operations, monitoring, provisioning and incident response
Work with senior engineers to understand infrastructure platforms and translate operational needs into practical automation and tooling solutions
Create integrations using APIs, command-line tools, web services and automation interfaces to improve administration and service delivery
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, source control practices, testing, code reviews and deployment processes for automation and internal tooling
Help troubleshoot issues across automation workflows, Linux systems, APIs, networking, DNS, monitoring and related infrastructure services
Automate routine operational tasks such as provisioning, health checks, reporting, validation, maintenance and compliance evidence collection
Develop reusable code, templates, playbooks, or modules that support repeatable and consistent infrastructure operations
Support monitoring and observability improvements by contributing to alerts, metrics, log collection, dashboards and reporting automation
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, security and operations teams to understand requirements and deliver automation that improves reliability, security and operational efficiency
Apply secure coding and operational practices, including access control, secrets handling, auditability, error handling and documentation
Create and maintain technical documentation, developer notes, standard operating procedures and runbooks for automation, tools and platform support
Participate in production support and on-call activities, using development and troubleshooting skills to assist with service restoration and incident follow-up
Identify manual or repetitive operational activities and propose automation, workflow or tooling improvements
Participate in incident response, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives by improving automation, observability and operational tooling
What will make you successful:
We are seeking professionals with:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Equivalent hands-on development, scripting, automation or infrastructure tooling experience will also be considered
Foundational software development or scripting experience using Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go, JavaScript or a similar language. preferably 3-6 years of experience
Basic understanding of Linux, networking, DNS, APIs and infrastructure support concepts
Experience creating scripts, automation workflows or small tools to solve operational or technical problems
Familiarity with Git, source control practices, CI/CD concepts, testing and code review processes
Ability to read documentation, understand requirements and translate operational needs into clear technical solutions
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and willingness to learn infrastructure platforms through development-focused work
Good written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, status updates and operational reporting
Interest in improving operational efficiency through automation, tooling, integration and continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications:
Exposure to Cloudian HyperStore or another enterprise object storage platform
Familiarity with S3-compatible storage concepts, including buckets, policies, replication, lifecycle management and access control
Exposure to enterprise block storage, SAN fabrics, Brocade switches, HDS, HPE XP or similar storage platforms
Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps or similar platforms
Experience developing REST API integrations, command-line tools, internal web tools, dashboards or reporting automation
Familiarity with containers, Kubernetes, configuration management, observability platforms or infrastructure-as-code practices
Knowledge of secure development practices, secrets management, auditability, compliance evidence collection and operational controls
Exposure to multi-site or multi-region storage deployments and disaster recovery concepts
Experience creating internal admin tools, reporting dashboards, operational scripts, or automation frameworks to improve platform support
Python, Linux, DevOps, cloud, automation, or CI/CD certifications
Cloudian Certified Administrator (CCA), Cloudian Certified Engineer (CCE) or storage-related certifications
The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position in Virginia is $101,303.00 USD Annual MINIMUM to $188,135.00 USD Annual MAXIMUM. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
