About the roleWe are looking for a Technical Program Manager (TPM) at the Senior Staff level to serve as a horizontal technology leader across our Core Infrastructure and Platform teams. At Nubank, a TPM is an Outcome Owner-an engineer at heart with the programmatic capability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from inception to production. You are fully accountable for the efficiency, scaling, and modernization of our foundational platforms.
Your mission is to lead horizontal infrastructure transformations at a massive scale. You will optimize database and network utilization, steer regionalization strategies, and guide our architectural evolution-whether that means refactoring monoliths into microservices or right-sizing macro-services. Crucially, you will be at the forefront of integrating AI into our core foundational platforms and ML infrastructure to maximize engineering leverage.
Core Responsibilities- Own Infrastructure Evolution: Lead programmatic execution for large-scale architectural shifts, including microservices refactoring, service optimization, and complex regionalization strategies.
- Maximize Efficiency & Scale: Drive initiatives to drastically increase hardware, database, and network utilization across our global infrastructure footprint.
- Steer AI/ML Platform Transformations: Own the program roadmap for embedding cutting-edge AI capabilities and advanced ML infrastructure directly into our foundational core platforms.
- Collaborate Horizontally: Roll up your sleeves to map out and manage deep technical dependencies across disparate infrastructure, data engineering, and platform squads.
- Define North-Star Architecture: Partner with senior engineering stakeholders to determine what our destination, long-term technical architecture looks like, converting that vision into actionable engineering phases.
Core Qualifications (What We're Looking For)- The "Engineer-First" Background: A proven foundational background as an Infrastructure, Site Reliability (SRE), or Core Backend Engineer earlier in your career before moving into technical program leadership. Please note: This is not a project coordinator role. We require deep technical expertise in these areas to effectively guide the engineering organization.
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: A strong track record of driving initiatives not just through tracking, but through active technical contribution. You possess the hands-on technical leadership and ability to unblock teams using your own technical expertise when complex engineering bottlenecks arise.
- Ownership & Entrepreneurial Mindset: A distinct ownership mentality with an entrepreneurial, "raise the bar" attitude. You don't just manage a roadmap; you treat the infrastructure as your own product, constantly pushing for higher standards of engineering excellence, efficiency, and scale.
- High-Scale Infrastructure Depth: Extensive experience managing massive cloud-native systems, focusing heavily on core networking, distributed databases, and high-utilization environments.
- AI Transformation Experience: A highly valued track record of leading or heavily contributing to AI/ML transformation initiatives at scale.
- Architectural Mastery: Proven ability to navigate complex architectural patterns (monoliths, microservices, nano-services) and successfully execute horizontal multi-year infrastructure roadmaps.
- Execution Mindset: Strong business acumen, executive communication skills, and a natural ability to step in and aggressively unblock engineering teams in an agile, fast-moving environment.
