Senior Solar Engineer Job Description - Natural Power
Overview

The Senior Solar Engineer serves as a key resource within the Construction team, assisting in the review of solar PV projects and providing technical due diligence to support the advisory team. The role will contribute to the technical review of utility-scale and commercial solar projects and portfolios for investors, financing parties, developers, and project owners. Role may be hired at the Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer level, commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Location: Hybrid role: Seattle, WA - Golden, CO - Saratoga Springs, NY

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the technical review of solar energy projects for potential investors, developers, and project owners.
  • Lead and contribute to writing and reviewing due diligence and independent engineering reports focused on solar technology and systems.
  • Review solar project designs, generation studies, and equipment specifications for code compliance, industry standards, and project requirements.
  • Evaluate system performance models, energy yield assessments, and equipment procurement strategies.
  • Develop skills in solar technology reviews as a core area of expertise, including PV module and inverter selection, array configuration, and electrical balance of plant, construction and equipment supply contracts, operating contracts, electrical engineering, civil engineering, permitting, and financial model reviews.
  • Conduct site visits for solar projects across development, construction, and operational phases.
  • Responsible for the on-time, on-quality, and on-budget delivery of tasks assigned to you.
  • Provide clear technical advice and communicate complex engineering issues to clients, investors, and lenders.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written, vertically and across the organization.
  • Maintain and improve internal project databases and information.
  • This position may require up to 20% travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in solar project design, engineering, or development, with at least 2 years in a role involving technical review, independent assessment, or consulting advisory work. Candidates with 3 - 4 years of highly relevant experience may be considered at the Engineer level.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Advanced degree and EIT certification preferred.
  • Experience in more than one renewable energy source.
  • Experience in consulting, due diligence, and independent engineering.
  • Exposure to energy storage (BESS) integration with solar PV systems.
  • Experience with travel and project site visits.
