Senior Soil Management Specialist to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for soil management programs associated with site assessment, remediation, reclamation, and development projects. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in soil characterization, soil handling, regulatory compliance, and beneficial reuse planning, while supporting project teams across a diverse portfolio of industrial, infrastructure, and energy-sector projects.
This role combines technical excellence, project delivery, client relationship management, and mentorship of junior staff.
Location -
Calgary, AB. Your role - Lead soil management planning and execution for complex environmental and construction projects, including the development and review of Soil Management Plans (SMPs), Excess Soil Management Plans, Soil Salvage Plans, and Soil Handling Procedures.
- Develop soil characterization programs, sampling strategies, and soil movement tracking and documentation programs, while providing expert interpretation of soil analytical data, soil quality guidelines, and soil suitability for beneficial reuse, treatment, disposal, and reclamation.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and delivery objectives are achieved.
- Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, and work plans, and identify project risks while developing and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate and collaborate with clients, regulators, subcontractors, laboratories, and other project stakeholders to support successful project execution.
- Interpret and apply provincial and federal soil management regulations and guidelines, support environmental permit applications and regulatory submissions, and maintain awareness of emerging regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Mentor and train junior and intermediate environmental professionals, conduct technical reviews of reports and deliverables, and promote safe work practices, technical excellence, and professional development.
About you - Diploma or Degree in a relevant discipline such as Soil Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Agriculture, Geology, or a related field. Eligibility for professional designation is considered an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in contaminated sites, remediation, and reclamation projects. Experience developing Excess Soil Management Plans, supporting soil reuse and disposal programs, and working with Ontario excess soil management regulations is considered an asset.
- Advanced understanding of soil classification, soil chemistry, and soil quality assessment, with strong knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations, environmental site assessment processes, and excess soil management regulations, frameworks, and beneficial reuse practices across Canada, which is considered a strong asset.
- Strong technical writing and report review capabilities, combined with demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills to provide technical guidance, support team development, and ensure the delivery of high-quality project outcomes.
- Willing Willingness to travel to field locations as required up to 20%.
- Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver's license with a clean driving record.
