GEICO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Underwriting Services Team. In this role, you will build and scale the next generation of underwriting platform for all business lines in GEICO and revamp existing tier-1 underwriting services. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization by designing, developing, and deploying core consumer experiences that leverage AI, ensuring they are robust, scalable and production ready. The Service Underwriting Engineering team partners closely with GEICO's underwriting operations team to design, build, and enhance applications that streamline underwriting processes and improve decision-making efficiency. The team develops scalable, reliable solutions that enable underwriters to work smarter, faster, and with accuracy, and aim to replace repetitive manual work with AI and automation. Position Responsibilities As a Senior Software Engineer , you will: 3 Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems 3 Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle 3 Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization 3 Utilize programming languages like C#, Java or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services 3 Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams 3 Build product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solution 3 Analysis and Estimation skills Qualifications 3 Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C# or other object-oriented languages 3 Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems 3 In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms 3 Understanding of service-oriented architecture and extensible REST/gRPC APIs 3 Understanding of monitoring tools 3 Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication) 3 Understanding in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational Framework 3 Experience with Enterprise level design documentation 3 Experience with Database Technologies 3 Experience with deployment steps and general CM functions 3 Strong problem-solving ability 3 Strong oral and written communication skills 3 Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment Experience 3 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering 3 4+ years of experience with security, identity, architecture, and design 3 2+ years of experience with open-source frameworks is desired 3 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service provider Education 3 Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience This is a Hybrid role based out of any of the following offices: - Bellevue, WA - Richardson, TX - Bethesda, MD #LI-MK1 Annual Salary $100,000.00 - $215,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline.
