Full Job Description
About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can independently build meaningful product and platform capabilities across Take Command. You'll be assigned to one of our product squads based on company needs, your experience, and your interests. Our squads work across areas like insurance shopping, benefits administration, money movement, reimbursement workflows, operational tools, and the platform services behind them.

This is a backend-leaning full-stack role. Technologies used include Java, Postgres, AWS, React, and TypeScript. Our backend is primarily Java today, and we value engineers who can help us evolve the stack thoughtfully over time.

As a senior individual contributor, you'll be expected to own meaningful work end to end, make strong technical decisions, and contribute to product and technical direction within your team.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain product and platform capabilities within your squad, including services, APIs, data models, and integrations
  • Write technical designs and contribute to design discussions for meaningful product and platform changes
  • Build frontend experiences in partnership with product and design
  • Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to turn ambiguous problems into practical solutions
  • Improve existing systems as you work, including code, tests, documentation, and operational patterns

What We're Looking For
  • Strong experience building production software in a backend-leaning full-stack role, ideally with Java or a similar language
  • Experience with relational databases, especially data modeling for real product systems
  • Experience working with distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, or microservices
  • Ability to take ownership of a problem, clarify ambiguity, and drive implementation
  • Good product judgment and an interest in how your work affects customers, internal users, operations, and the business
  • Pragmatic technical judgment about when to keep things simple, when to invest more deeply, and how to make tradeoffs
  • Clear communication and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, design, and business partners

Compensation
  • $140,000 - $195,000 + 10%
  • We believe employees should be compensated fairly based on the market in which they live and work. Using geographic market data helps us maintain competitive pay, support internal equity, and ensure a consistent approach to compensation decisions across the company.

Working at Take Command

We're excited to build a team and culture that reflects our values! We offer competitive pay and health benefits to share with this position.
  • A generously funded ICHRA for medical, dental, and vision premiums and medical expenses. You get to use our own product and we think that's so exciting and rare!
  • Unlimited personal vacation in addition to regular company holidays.
  • 401(k): 90-day eligibility for 4% match that vests over 4 years with a one year cliff!
  • We have two beautiful offices in Richardson, Texas (City Line) and Austin, Texas. The kitchen is well-stocked and we've designed the space to have lots of different areas to work--lounge on the couch, stand near your colleague at a kiosk desk or hole up in one of our phone rooms!
  • Competitive parental leave for new parents.
  • Up to two paid days of Paw-ternity leave. We recognize that pets are family too - and supporting life outside of work (including four-legged members) matters!
  • ClassPass corporate membership with access to over 73,000 fitness and wellness options.
  • Flexible on where you work - we believe in the power of connecting with intention! While we hope to see you around the office on a regular basis, you also have the ability to work from home some when you need to get focus work done.
