The ProblemAs Flock continues to expand to more customers, our pipeline systems must process billions of daily assets in real time with ultra-low latency. Accommodating this rapid workload expansion demands strong architectural design, backend optimization, and distributed systems scaling. You will solve critical scaling bottlenecks, optimize data processing pipelines, and build resilient infrastructure that supports our growing customer base.
What You'll Own- Architect, scale, and maintain high-throughput backend data pipelines handling real-time asset ingestion across microservices.
- Optimize PostgreSQL database performance, pub/sub architectures, and distributed storage systems under heavy traffic loads.
- Lead service migrations toward Go-heavy patterns while maintaining performant TypeScript backend services.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Hardware, Machine Learning, Web, Mobile, and Data Science teams to design and deploy new pipeline features.
- Act as a technical domain expert by conducting code reviews, mentoring peer engineers, and driving engineering best practices across the pipeline ecosystem.
What This Role is Not- This isn't a front-end or client-side engineering position, your daily focus centers strictly on high-scale backend data processing and microservice architecture.
- This is not a purely theoretical research role, you will take ambiguous problems, map out concrete technical plans, and ship production-grade code.
- This isn't a siloed individual contribution, you will actively collaborate across adjacent engineering disciplines and mentor junior engineers.
What You Bring- Deep proficiency in TypeScript backend patterns alongside proficiency or strong capability to scale up quickly in Go.
- Demonstrated capability in designing and operating distributed systems and microservice architectures under heavy data ingestion loads.
- Strong backend database and pub/sub experience leveraging PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, Redis, SQS, or SNS, including query optimization.
- Practical cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized deployment workflows.
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills with a track record of collaborating across hardware, data science, and application engineering teams.
CompensationIn this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $172,000 and $200,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.
Some problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.
