Purpose of the Job:The Senior Software Engineer brings deep technical expertise and leadership to the team. In addition to delivering high-quality code, this role takes ownership of complex features and systems, helps guide technical direction, mentors junior developers, and collaborates cross-functionally to align engineering decisions with business objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesDescription of responsibilities: - Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code (the kind you'd actually want to come back to)
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers
- Participate in architectural reviews and help shape the long-term technical roadmap
- Lead the design and implementation of critical features and architectural improvements
- Design and build scalable, performant services and APIs that don't melt under pressure
- Write unit tests and help keep our automated test suite in fighting shape
- Review your teammates' code with kindness, curiosity, and just enough nitpicking
- Help shape and evolve our coding standards and best practices - we're always improving
- Track down bugs, squash them, and leave the code better than you found it
- Turn vague business requirements into clean, working features (like a magician, but with code)
- Take part in on-call rotation and production support - helping keep things running smoothly when it really counts
- Balance feature work with smart refactoring to keep the codebase healthy and happy
This role is focused on software/application development. Candidates with data analysis or data science backgrounds are welcome if they also have strong experience in application development.
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseRequired Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred
- At least 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role
- Demonstrated experience leading features, refactors, or small teams
- Comfortable reviewing designs, mentoring peers, and driving cross-team collaboration
- Experience developing backend applications in Node.js using JavaScript / TypeScript with an emphasis on RESTful APIs and event driven or queue-based architecture
- Proficiency with Oracle SQL and Oracle PL/SQL (or similar RDBMS like PostgresSQL or Microsoft SQL Server)
- Experience with UI/UX development using Angular v12+ (or equivalent experience with React, Vue and similar) and reactive patterns with RxJS and NgRx
- Ability and desire to do great software engineering: You're doing it now, and your background shows you will pick up quickly what you have not already learned
- Demonstrated ability to work in a professional team: Years of experience as a software engineer would be an easy way to check this box, but not the only way
- Solid understanding of how to develop responsive sites which are cross-browser and device compatible, using modern web practices to create an efficient user experience
- Familiarity with modern frontend tooling (e.g., Nx, pnpm), and a willingness to help shape team standards
- Experience with CSS preprocessors (SASS, LESS, etc.)
- Bonus: Experience with C, PHP, or Linux shell scripting (Bash)
- Experience with Git or other source control systems; a public GitHub presence is a plus
