Full Job Description
Job Description

The Ford Pro Intelligence (FPI) Telematics team is looking for strong Software Engineers to build web applications and services that will be useful, reliable, secure products for our customers. This team creates back-end services and APIs that are used to help customers understand, manage, and control their fleets of vehicles via web, mobile and API applications.

Ford Pro Intelligence provides telematics and fleet management services to our commercial and fleet customers. Ford Pro products and services serve as a foundational building block to Ford's continued leadership and innovation in fleet/commercial vehicle market segments. Fleets are our future, representing a significant portion of vehicle sales and continual expected growth.

The Mission: Build the Digital Nervous System for the World's Fleets

Every single day, millions of people rely on commercial vehicles to keep the world moving. From ambulances rushing to emergencies and utility trucks restoring power, to delivery vans bringing goods to our doorsteps-fleets are the backbone of our global economy.

At Ford Pro Intelligence (FPI), we aren't just building vehicles; we are building the highly scalable, real-time software platform that powers them. As a Senior Backend Engineer on our Telematics team, you will design and build the secure, high-throughput APIs and cloud services that ingest, process, and transform billions of data points from connected vehicles into actionable, real-time insights for fleet operators worldwide.

If you want to see the direct impact of your code on the roads every single day, and help drive the transition to a connected, electrified future-come build what matters.

Responsibilities

In this position...

Massive Scale, Real-World Impact: You will work on high-volume IoT ingestion pipelines and APIs. Your services will directly influence the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of millions of commercial vehicles.
Modern Tech Stack & Best Practices: We are a team that believes in doing things the right way. We champion Test-Driven Development (TDD), clean code, robust CI/CD pipelines, and microservices architecture.

True Autonomy: We operate in small, highly collaborative, product-minded teams. You won't just receive tickets; you will have a seat at the table to influence architecture, technical direction, and product strategy.
A Culture of Continuous Learning: We embrace ambiguity as an opportunity to innovate. You will have the space to experiment with new technologies, mentor peers, and continuously level up your skills.

What you'll do...

As a Senior Engineer, you will be a technical anchor for a collaborative, cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers.

Architect & Scale: Design, develop, and deploy highly resilient, secure, and scalable backend microservices (using Kotlin/Java and Spring Boot) capable of handling massive telemetry data streams.
Own the Lifecycle: Champion engineering excellence from inception to production. You will write clean, well-tested code (TDD), manage CI/CD pipelines, and deploy to modern cloud environments (GCP).
Collaborate & Influence: Partner closely with Product Managers and UI/UX Designers to translate complex fleet management needs into elegant, developer-friendly APIs (OAS standards).
Drive Operational Excellence: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and proactive defect prevention. We build it, we run it, we continuously improve it.
Mentor & Lead: Help elevate the team's technical capabilities by conducting thoughtful code reviews, sharing architectural best practices, and onboarding newer team members.

Qualifications

You'll have...

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience with a strong foundation in Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience) and 6+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade backend applications.

6+ years of experience with a deep proficiency in Java or Kotlin. You know how to write clean, idiomatic, and highly performant code.
6+ years of experience within the Spring Ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data).
6+ years of strong expertise in relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL or similar SQL databases, including query optimization and schema design.
6+ years of deploying systems to the cloud (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and a passion for automation, robust CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
6+ of being a strong advocate for Agile methodologies, TDD, and collaborative development.

Even Better If You Have...
Experience with Event-Driven Architectures and messaging systems (Pub/Sub, Kafka, or RabbitMQ).
Familiarity with OpenAPI Standards (OAS) and designing public-facing RESTful APIs.
Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
A background or strong interest in IoT, telematics, or electric vehicle (EV) data systems.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above?
