We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who not only writes excellent code but also mentors others, drives technical decisions, and influences architecture across the team. This individual will act as a technical leader on the team, setting standards for code quality, system design, and engineering practices, while remaining deeply hands-on. You will have a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle - from architecture and development to testing and deployment - and will design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code with a focus on modern web technologies, cloud-native architecture, and the practical use of AI tools to enhance engineering productivity across the team.
This role requires hands-on experience with cloud services (AWS), API development, and full-stack application development using languages like TypeScript, NestJS (Node) and familiarity with Go. You'll play a key part in agile teams - leading architecture design sessions, proofs of concept, and technical demonstrations, and partnering with product and engineering leadership on technical strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and design decisions for scalable, secure, and maintainable cloud-based applications and APIs using .NET, TypeScript, NestJS (Node).
- Champion the adoption of AI tools across the team to enhance development efficiency, automate testing, and support documentation.
- Build and guide the development of modern web interfaces using .NET, TypeScript and frameworks like React or Next.
- Own identity and access control design using Okta and other cloud auth providers.
- Drive effective use of cloud tools in Azure/AWS across the team, including tradeoff evaluation between platforms and services.
- Design and build RESTful APIs, integrating with both SQL and NoSQL data stores, with an eye toward long-term maintainability and scale.
- Mentor and coach intermediate and junior engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Set and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing practices, CI/CD hygiene, and security posture.
- Lead troubleshooting of complex production issues, including root cause analysis and post-incident write-ups.
- Actively participate in and help shape agile development methodologies, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams in architecture design, technical reviews, and technical roadmap planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading design or architecture for at least one significant system or service, ideally at scale.
- Track record of mentoring other engineers and/or leading technical initiatives within a team.
- Strong experience in web technologies, API development/consumption, and full-stack application development.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with cloud-native development patterns, including designing for scalability, reliability, and service boundaries.
- Proficiency in .NET, TypeScript, NestJS (Node).
- Proficient with container technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience driving maturity in DevOps pipelines, Git, GitHub - GitHub Actions, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
- Experience with modern testing practices (e.g., test automation, shift-left testing).
- Demonstrated ability to lead work on both greenfield and legacy systems in agile team environments.
- Experience influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading integration or adoption of AI-assisted tools in development workflows.
- Experience with distributed systems design, microservices, containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes), and event-driven architecture at scale.
- History of technical writing - architecture decision records (ADRs), design docs, or RFCs.
- Prior experience as a tech lead or lead engineer on a team.
- Experience developing, deploying, and operating applications on AWS.
- Internal tech talks, conference contributions, or other public technical speaking (a plus, not required).
