Senior Software Developer Transformation Engineering
Reports to: Enterprise Architect
Overview of the role
The Senior Software Developer will join the Transformation Engineering Team and help modernize critical healthcare and laboratory technology. The role will build domain-based services, modernize legacy applications and reduce dependency on tightly connected systems and shared databases.
This is a senior hands-on position. The developer will work with architects, Technical Business Analysts, QA and business teams to modernize one system, workflow or business area at a time without disrupting operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and build domain-based services for critical healthcare and laboratory capabilities.
• Modernize legacy applications and workflows while protecting business continuity.
• Reduce tight coupling and direct dependence on shared databases.
• Build independently deployable services with clear ownership and well-defined interfaces.
• Analyze legacy code, database dependencies, data flows and hidden business rules.
• Move hard-coded rules into governed, testable and reusable capabilities.
• Establish clear ownership for data, services and business decisions.
• Create secure APIs and event-driven integrations where appropriate.
• Reduce duplicate data, manual reconciliation and unnecessary copies of sensitive information.
• Plan and execute gradual migrations, parallel validation and controlled cutovers.
• Implement role-based access, audit logging, monitoring, performance controls and secure coding practices.
• Write automated tests and participate in design reviews, code reviews and production support.
• Create technical documentation and mentor engineers in modern engineering practices.
• Use AI-assisted tools for analysis, coding, testing and documentation while validating output and protecting sensitive data.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8 or more years of hands-on software development experience.

• Knowledge of distributed systems, asynchronous processing and integration architecture.
• Experience with secure development, automated testing, continuous delivery and production support.
• Ability to analyze complex workflows, data dependencies and unfamiliar codebases.
• Strong collaboration with architects, analysts, QA and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, genomics or laboratory operations.
• Experience applying domain-driven design and the strangler modernization pattern.
• Knowledge of API versioning, event or message patterns, retries, idempotency and recovery.
• Experience moving from shared-database architectures to owned services and data domains.
• Knowledge of authentication, role-based access, audit logging and observability.
• Experience with containers, cloud platforms and performance engineering.
• Experience modernizing regulated systems through gradual migration and controlled cutover.
