Overview

This role sits at the center of Microsoft's most visible product launches, cultural moments, and brand initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strategic rigor, creative excellence, audience understanding, and campaign leadership to build social experiences that inspire participation and deepen customer connection across platforms.

The Senior Social Strategy Lead will be responsible for developing the end-to-end social strategy for major campaigns, connecting integrated marketing objectives to platform-native content, creator partnerships, community engagement, and cultural relevance. This individual will influence senior stakeholders, align diverse teams, and ensure social marketing is embedded early in campaign development to maximize impact.

Success in this role requires a leader who can move seamlessly between strategic planning, creative development, stakeholder influence, and campaign execution while maintaining a relentless focus on customer behavior, business outcomes, and measurable impact.

Responsibilities

Social Strategy Leadership

  • Lead social strategy development for priority product launches, seasonal moments, integrated campaigns, and brand initiatives.


  • Translate business objectives, audience insights, cultural trends, and integrated campaign platforms into clear social marketing strategies.


  • Define channel roles, content priorities, customer journeys, and engagement approaches.


  • Ensure social marketing is represented early in campaign development and strategic planning processes.


  • Serve as the primary social strategy partner to Integrated Marketing, Product Marketing, and Go-to-Market stakeholders.


  • Present recommendations, tradeoffs, risks, and strategic decisions to senior leaders with clarity and confidence.


Campaign Management

  • Build full-funnel social marketing strategies that connect awareness, consideration, engagement, and action.


  • Develop integrated social ecosystems that align content, channels, community engagement, creators, and customer participation.


  • Establish channel-specific approaches grounded in audience behavior, platform best practices, cultural relevance, and business goals.


  • Create scalable frameworks and repeatable approaches that elevate campaign effectiveness across the organization.


  • Drive strategic alignment across multiple teams to ensure a cohesive customer experience throughout campaign lifecycles.


Content Strategy

  • Write clear, insight-driven creative and content briefs for internal teams, agency partners, and production partners.


  • Translate campaign platforms into social-first concepts designed for participation, conversation, discovery, and advocacy.


  • Guide creative development from concept through launch while protecting strategic intent and platform relevance.


  • Provide actionable feedback that improves creative quality while ensuring accessibility, brand standards, product accuracy, and customer impact.


  • Champion innovative storytelling approaches that resonate with audiences where they spend time and engage most deeply.


Creator & Community Strategy

  • Define the role of creators and community engagement within broader marketing campaigns.


  • Partner with Creator Partnerships teams to identify and activate creators who can authentically connect products and audiences.


  • Develop participation strategies that encourage meaningful engagement, advocacy, and customer conversation.


  • Ensure creator, community, earned, and owned approaches work together as part of a unified campaign strategy.


Measurement & Optimization

  • Partner closely with Social Intelligence and Analytics teams to define success metrics and measurement plans.


  • Interpret campaign performance insights and translate learnings into future strategic recommendations.


  • Contribute strategic perspectives to campaign reviews, performance discussions, and best-practice development.


  • Apply audience, cultural, and performance insights to continuously improve campaign effectiveness.


Innovation & AI Transformation

  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to accelerate insight generation, strategic planning, creative development, and workflow efficiency.


  • Identify opportunities to modernize social marketing practices, improve team effectiveness, and scale impact through innovation.


  • Stay ahead of changes in platform capabilities, creator ecosystems, customer behavior, and digital culture.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Public Relations, or related field AND 3+ years integrated marketing (e.g., digital, relationship, social media, campaign), event management, marketing strategy, business planning, marketing operations, or related work experience OR equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated success leading social strategy for large-scale consumer marketing campaigns, product launches, or brand initiatives.


  • Significant experience developing end-to-end social marketing strategies across multiple platforms and audiences.


  • Strong understanding of full-funnel marketing principles and customer journey planning.


  • Deep expertise across major social platforms, creator ecosystems, audience behaviors, and platform-native creative.


  • Experience writing creative briefs and guiding creative development from strategy to execution.

Integrated Marketing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
