Full Job Description
Senior Simulation Engineer

Department: Technology Research & Development

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Reports to: Manager, Technology Development

Eavor Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Simulation Engineer to advance its physics-based simulation capability supporting Jules, Eavor's next-generation geothermal drilling system. The simulator couples thermal-hydraulic and structural-mechanical models to represent drilling operations and support system design, operational analysis, and digital-twin applications.

This is a hands-on solver development role.

Some of what you will do:

Model and Solver Development
  • Lead the development of physics-based models and numerical solvers, with primary emphasis on computational structural mechanics and integration with existing thermal-hydraulic models.
  • Translate engineering needs into model requirements and development priorities.
  • Improve solver robustness, accuracy, and computational performance.
  • Lead verification and validation of the simulator using experimental, operational, analytical, and benchmark evidence.
  • Maintain technical documentation covering model assumptions, limitations, and validation status.

Engineering Application and Integration
  • Define solver interfaces, data requirements, and performance criteria for integration with the Jules system.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define and evaluate simulation scenarios representing relevant drilling operations and system behaviours.
  • Use simulation results to inform design reviews and assess the impact of design changes on system performance and operability.
  • Contribute to the development of new intellectual property.
  • Apply AI-enabled tools appropriately to improve software development and technical analysis.

Some of what you will need:

  • MSc or PhD in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience developing numerical simulation software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in computational structural mechanics and nonlinear finite element methods.
  • Understanding of coupled multiphysics simulation, such as fluid-thermal or fluid-structure interaction.
  • Strong mathematical foundations in linear algebra, numerical methods, and differential equations.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Ability to verify and validate models against test data, analytical solutions, or established simulation codes.
  • Effective problem-solving, technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in computational mechanics, scientific computing, or a related field.
  • Experience applying computational mechanics to drilling systems, such as torque-and-drag, drillstring dynamics, or tubular mechanics.
  • Familiarity with commercial and open source simulation tools for modelling and benchmarking such as COMSOL, Ansys, Abaqus, OpenFOAM, MOOSE, Elmer or CalculiX
  • Proficiency with production software practices: typed code, automated testing, code review, and continuous integration.
  • A background in performance engineering: profiling, compiled numerical kernels, or real-time and co-simulation interfaces.

What we bring to the table:

  • Competitive compensation package including upside opportunity
  • Comprehensive Benefits package which includes health, dental and life
  • Company sponsored Health Care Spending Account
  • Company sponsored RRSP matching program
  • Fast-paced, fun, and collaborative working environment
  • A team invested in you both personally and professionally
  • New and freshly renovated office space including gym membership
  • The opportunity to change the world and be a part of the evolution of scalable, clean, baseload and dispatchable power
