Description

Join Black Equipment as a Senior Shop Mechanic and become a leader in our service department. You'll play a critical role in diagnosing difficult repairs, ensuring quality workmanship, and helping develop the next generation of technicians.

As a Senior Shop Mechanic, you'll perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a wide range of material handling and construction equipment. You'll be expected to handle the most challenging mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and troubleshooting assignments while serving as a mentor and technical resource for other technicians. This is a shop-based position focused on quality repairs, technical expertise, and leadership.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic issues.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic software, testing equipment, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Lead difficult repairs and provide technical guidance to other technicians.
  • Mentor and train junior mechanics, apprentices, and newer technicians.
  • Ensure repairs meet manufacturer and company standards.
  • Work closely with Parts and Service leadership to efficiently complete repairs.
  • Assist with shop workflow, repair prioritization, and quality control.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • 15+ years of professional mechanic experience
  • Forklift, material handling equipment, heavy equipment, diesel, or industrial equipment experience.
  • Experience leading technicians or serving as a shop lead.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience including CAN Bus systems and advanced diagnostics.
  • Strong experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and engine systems.
  • Ability to independently diagnose difficult and intermittent equipment issues.
  • Advanced understanding of schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Experience using modern diagnostic software and equipment.
  • Ability to mentor and train less experienced technicians.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work including lifting, bending, climbing, and working around industrial equipment.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications
  • OEM certifications or manufacturer training.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • $40.00+ per hour based on experience
