Job Duties- Define safety requirements as a member of a cross-functional design team. Contribute to the development and qualification of new products.
- Lead Hazard Analysis Reviews with cross-functional engineering teams to perform risk assessments of concepts, designs, and products.
- Advise Project Leaders, Product Managers, Design Engineers, and Reliability Engineers regarding safety requirements including tests and design constraints to minimize risk of injury and property damage.
- Effectively communicate and motivate up, down, and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.
- Set direction for safety activities on assigned categories based on industry safety standards, product rules, and product regulations.
- Lead Product Safety Team efforts for Hydraulic (Crimping & Cutting) and other Plumbing and Electrical product development. Assess organizational capacity to support current and future projects in this category.
- Mentor and onboard new safety engineers. May manage project team members.
- Review embedded system designs.
- Conduct product design and construction reviews. Review test results and determine acceptability.
- Review operator's manuals, on-product markings, and other technical communications.
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, related engineering field, or the foreign degree equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience as a Safety Engineer, or alternate related acceptable occupation;
OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, related engineering field, or the foreign degree equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience as a Safety Engineer, or alternate related acceptable occupation.
Work or academic experience must have included:
1. Handling product safety activities, regulatory listings design of Hydraulic (Crimping & Cutting) Power Tools & Accessories, Plumbing & Electrical related power tools or consumer products.
2. Risk-Based Hazard Analysis.
3. Performing and reviewing failure mode and effects analysis.
4. Fault Tree Analysis.
5. Thermodynamic Analysis.
6. EC/UL 62841 (Power Tools), UL 1976 (Crimp Tools for Use with Connecting Devices) and UL 486A-486B (Wire Connectors) Standards.
7. Electrical Circuit Analysis.
8. Statistical Analysis and Probability Modeling, including Monte Carlo Analysis.
10% of domestic and international travel required.
