Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Senior Roadway Designer is responsible for developing and producing roadway and transportation plans for FDOT and other transportation projects. This position works closely with project managers and engineers to develop construction documents in accordance with FDOT standards, criteria, and project requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong roadway design and plan production experience and be proficient in either the FDOT Civil 3D State Kit or Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and produce roadway construction plans for FDOT and transportation projects.
  • Prepare plan sheets including plan and profile, typical sections, cross sections, signing and pavement marking, maintenance of traffic (TTCP), drainage coordination, and related plan components.
  • Develop roadway geometry, horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, corridors, and surfaces.
  • Perform roadway modeling and grading using the FDOT Civil 3D State Kit or Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
  • Prepare plan sets in accordance with FDOT Plans Preparation Manual (PPM), FDOT Design Manual (FDM), FDOT Standard Plans, and applicable project requirements.
  • Interpret engineering designs, survey information, specifications, and project criteria to develop detailed construction plans.
  • Coordinate roadway design with drainage, utilities, traffic, structures, survey, environmental, and other disciplines.
  • Review plans for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with FDOT standards.
  • Assist engineers and project managers with design development and resolution of design issues.
  • Coordinate revisions and incorporate review comments from FDOT, clients, and other agencies.
  • Maintain organized CAD/model files and project documentation.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of roadway design and plan production experience.
  • Strong experience with FDOT roadway projects preferred.
  • Proficiency with either the FDOT Civil 3D State Kit or Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Strong understanding of roadway design principles and construction plan development.
  • Familiarity with FDOT design standards, plan preparation requirements, and standard details.
  • Ability to read and interpret survey data, engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferred Experience
  • FDOT resurfacing, reconstruction, widening, new roadway, and/or intersection improvement projects.
  • Developing complete FDOT plan sets and electronic deliverables.
  • FDOT Design Standards and Standard Plans.
  • Roadway corridors, intersections, turn lanes, driveways, superelevation, drainage coordination, and ADA improvements.
  • FDOT submittal and review processes.
  • Mentoring junior designers and providing technical guidance to design staff.
