THE POSITIONThe Senior Revenue Accountant, Liquids Infrastructure Accounting is responsible for complex accounting, reconciliation, analysis, invoicing support, and reporting activities for liquids infrastructure assets. This role supports accurate and timely month-end and quarter-end close processes, prepares and reviews accounting entries and reconciliations, investigates variances, and helps ensure financial results are supported by strong documentation and controls. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Manager of Liquids Infrastructure Accounting, Finance, Commercial, Business Development, Financial Systems, and other stakeholders to resolve issues, improve processes, and provide guidance to more junior team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, true-ups, allocations, and supporting schedules for assigned liquids infrastructure activities.
- Lead assigned month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring deliverables are accurate, complete, and completed within required timelines.
- Prepare, review, and analyze account reconciliations; investigate reconciling items, variances, and unusual transactions; and drive timely resolution.
- Support invoice validation and issue resolution for facilities, pipeline, trucking, storage, processing, and related infrastructure activities.
- Review commercial agreements, system mappings, rate structures, and transaction details to support accurate accounting and invoicing outcomes.
- Partner with Finance, Commercial, Business Development, Financial Systems, and other stakeholders to resolve accounting, invoicing, reporting, and process questions.
- Maintain and enhance documentation for accounting entries, reconciliations, invoices, procedures, controls, and issue resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and increase efficiency across recurring accounting activities.
- Provide coaching, review support, and technical guidance to analysts or junior team members as required.
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT EXPECTATIONS- Own assigned accounting processes with a high degree of accuracy, consistency, and accountability.
- Apply professional judgment to identify, analyze, and resolve accounting issues, escalating matters when appropriate.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of liquids infrastructure accounting processes, systems, commercial agreements, and related financial impacts.
- Proactively identify unusual transactions, control gaps, process inefficiencies, or reporting issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders, including the ability to explain complex accounting matters in a practical way.
- Support team development through knowledge sharing, coaching, and review of work prepared by junior team members.
KEY SKILLS- Strong accounting knowledge, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, allocations, financial controls, and financial reporting support.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances, interpret financial data, and resolve complex reconciling items.
- Strong Excel, data analysis, and data organization skills.
- Working knowledge of accounting systems, sub-ledgers, interfaces, and general ledger mapping.
- Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and follow-through.
- Ability to understand commercial agreements, infrastructure processes, and related accounting impacts.
- Ability to coach others, review work, and contribute to process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- CPA designation is required or strongly preferred.
- Minimum eight years of accounting, finance, operational accounting, infrastructure accounting, or related experience.
- Strong working knowledge of month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, financial controls, and financial reporting support.
- Experience in Operational Accounting, Infrastructure Accounting, Midstream, or energy-related accounting is considered an asset.
- Experience with ERP, ETRM, sub-ledger, or accounting interface systems is considered an asset; experience with RightAngle, EOne, and QByte specifically is also considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, support process improvements, and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
