DESCRIPTION

We're looking for a Senior Researcher- Civil Engineer, Transportation, who can help improve the safety, efficiency, and performance of forest transportation in collaboration with a team of transportation professionals, external technical partners, operational and technical personnel in industry, and government agencies.

Our vision is to provide superior service to our traditional forest sector clients and extend our services to other resource and transportation sectors. Our research focuses on optimizing truck configurations to maximize payload, assessing infrastructure (roads and bridges) for recommended transportation corridors, understanding the interaction between heavy vehicles and roads, evaluating the environmental impacts of road infrastructure and transportation safety issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze and evaluate forest transportation systems to improve overall efficiency, through an understanding of heavy vehicle configurations and the regulations and provincial weight and dimensions policies which govern them;
  • Maintain/expand a professional network with major transportation resources from industry, the government and associations;
  • Strong knowledge of road design (paved and unpaved) and vehicle impact measurements.
  • Knowledge of design and analysis of resource road geometry for heavy vehicle configurations;
  • General knowledge of bridge structures;
  • Collaboratively develop, propose, and conduct research projects and contracts for industry nationwide
  • Write detailed reports and present them to both internal and external clients in a summary format that clearly displays the impact of the work


QUALIFICATIONS
  • To hold an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Masters' degree, in Civil Engineering or Transportation an asset.
  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hold a Professional Engineer certification (P.Eng.or O.I.Q.) or in process.


SKILLS
  • Team player, curious and focused on improving the competitiveness of the forest sector.
  • Great at solving problems, troubleshooting, designing and implementing solutions to complex technical issues.
  • A knack for driving impact and growth.
  • Strong communications skills in English (written and spoken), French an asset for BC and AB.
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing priorities

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and autonomously, good organizational skills and a strong sense of initiative
  • Positive attitude and openness to learn
  • Willingness to travel throughout Canada and work in the field, often in remote locations, up to 15% of the year; and have a valid driver's license.
