Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Research Chemist/Metallurgist will lead research projects, applying innovative approaches to deliver timely solutions that meet customer and market needs while adhering to the proper testing standards and laboratory procedure. This role supports the supervisor in completing assigned work on schedule, and collaborating on laboratory, department and company needs actively. The position will also involve direct customer engagement and present the research findings in alignment with Indium best practices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
• Develop a strong understanding of the electronic industry practices and identify opportunities for improvement in soldering, sintering, surface mount technology, semiconductor packaging, thermal interface interconnections, etc.
• Apply technical expertise, research insights, and innovative thinking to lead and execute the research projects
• Design, implement, optimize, and finish the executable Design of Experiment (DOE) to ensure the successful research outcomes creatively, timely and successfully
• Analyze and identify the root-cause of the failure and purpose, validate and implement effective solution
• Train and lead the research associate in the research projects and the routine laboratory works
• Operate equipment, prepare the samples and collect the data correctly by following the testing standards and the laboratory procedure
• Maintain thorough documentation of materials preparation, experimental procedures and data collections
• Analyze and present the results clearly, accurately and concisely
• Collaborate effectively and efficiently with operations, quality assurance, marketing, technical support and our customer
• Lead the delivery of the validated solutions to production for customer through coordination with quality, engineering, manufacturing and marketing teams
• Support the department and the company actively in developing the roadmap and strategies of research and product
• Assist and lead the routine lab maintenance, operation, consumable supply, renovation etc.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies
• Train Research & Development staff as assigned
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

REQUIMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in technical discipline with 8 years related technical experience required or Master's degree in technical discipline with 4 years related technical experience preferred Technical discipline defined as chemistry, metallurgy, material science, or engineering
• Strong communication skills with ability to effectively collaborate across teams and the organization
• Proficiency in data-collection and analysis, simulation tools and CAD
• Experience in safety standards, quality assurance, and best engineering and laboratory practices
• Knowledge of DOE, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Failure Analysis (FA)
• Hands-on experience with machine operation and test experience
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments in a manufacturing lab environment with a minimum level of supervision
• Ability to read and understand product design and fabrication documentation
• Experience documenting design changes in accordance with applicable standards
• Ability to work independently with verbal or written instructions
• Ability to teach and mentor
• Ability to audit financial transactions and work of others
• Ability to perform under pressure
• Ability to develop an understanding of Indium Corporation products and services

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the range for the position. The actual range will vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position's qualifications, and internal equity.
