Full Job Description

This exciting opportunity calls for a seasoned Reliability Engineer eager to lead data-driven initiatives that enhance maintenance, automation, and overall site performance. By leveraging your expertise in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and other predictive methodologies, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities, develop compelling business cases, and implement strategies that maximize system uptime. Join us in shaping the future of reliability at our bustling South San Francisco and Dixon campuses, supporting a dynamic environment where innovation meets precision in ensuring the seamless operation of life-changing healthcare infrastructure.

The Opportunity

This role requires proficiency in key elements of Reliability Engineering (RE).  The focus of the role is to lead the collection and analysis of data to identify and recommend specific opportunities for improvements to site maintenance, automation and reliability programs.  Build and refine business cases for, support implementation of, and review effectiveness of recommendations.

This role will collaborate with stakeholders and apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles and practices to ensure the proper maintenance and operation of all site facilities, utilities, and equipment. A key focus is to lead and contribute to strategic planning for Reliability Engineering. This includes applying RCM to both GMP and Non-GMP equipment across the South San Francisco (SSF) and Dixon (DXN) campuses to increase system uptime and optimize Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA).

This role will primarily support Genentech SSF Lower Campus, and flex to support all SSF and Dixon campuses. Lower Campus includes 1.8M sq ft of laboratory, GMP manufacturing, office and amenities spaces.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

Analysis of Criticality and Failures

  • Use existing databases (e.g., SAP CMMS, qualified and non-qualified Facilities Data Historian (FDH) and Building Automation System (BAS)), updating as required, to perform Pareto analysis and follow up to improve results.

  • Provide SME input to the site equipment criticality and risk ranking process.

Analysis and Optimization (A&O)

  • Participate in and drive improvement through the Daily Huddles.  These meetings will concentrate initially on the implementation of reliability initiatives and then move to driving continuous improvement.

  • Produce and use metrics to monitor and drive improvements in the Equipment Reliability program.  Manage recommendations and metrics associated with the monitoring of equipment and maintenance program performance.  These activities include partnering closely with our Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partner, Site Automation, Plant Engineering and Design and Construction organizations for data collection, analysis, and report-out activities.

  • Ensure that the appropriate level of support, investigation and follow-up is pursued for actionable trends, emerging patterns, and identified problems or issues.

  • Make equipment design change recommendations including evaluating and reporting the cost benefit of changes to improve reliability. Create and maintain critical spare parts programs.

  • Support quality and productivity improvements.

  • Prepare the organization to support continuous improvements in reliability.

Project Support

  • Assure that reliability and maintainability principles are integrated into all large and small capital projects, especially in the design phases. The level of support will depend on the size, complexity, and phase of the project.  Maintain communication with engineering and project management on Facility related projects.

  • Drive proper collection and summarization of system and parts data for handover from projects to operations. Responsible for creation of Maintenance Strategies, Work Instructions, Maintenance Plans, Spare Parts and BOM’s.

  • Direct communication and collaboration with project team (Architects, Engineers, and General Contractors), Genentech stakeholders/SMEs to ensure project accounts for asset maintenance and reliability management/considerations and total cost of ownership throughout design, execution and closeout.

Problem Investigations and Root Cause Analyses

  • Ensure the timely leadership, problem investigation and analysis through the conduct and facilitation of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for applicable equipment failures or trends.  This includes investigation and support of emerging maintenance and operational issues in collaboration with equipment owners.

Asset Management Strategy

  • Lead and implement the Asset Management Strategy and associated program.  This includes maintenance strategy and program coordination, and decision-making, appropriate to the equipment and its owner.

  • Develop and maintain a strategic capital improvement plan for the site.

  • Assess repair versus replacement options, providing input to site on new equipment design, specification, and purchase decisions.

  • Ensure that the maintenance strategies and actions employed are appropriate to the criticality of facilities, utilities and support lab equipment ( ie: Washers, Ovens, LAR support systems).

  • Ensure that standard designs, design specifications, installation guidance documents, operating and maintenance procedures incorporate the appropriate maintenance and reliability principals and considerations.

Who You Are

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • 8 years of experience in an operational environment with a focus on maintenance and reliability programs.

  • Overall working knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) with experience in the application and analysis of various Predictive Maintenance (PdM) methods, including at least 2 years’ experience with rotating equipment, and electrical systems including MCCs and building electrical distribution systems
