Our Forestry Division, Northern Wildlife Region, has an opening for a
Senior Regional Wildlife Biologist who will be responsible for the wildlife activities on Company timberlands located in northern California and Oregon. The successful candidate will lead a group of wildlife professionals charged with environmental compliance, habitat protection, and sustainable wildlife management programs. The position will be based out of our
Anderson, California office.
About the Position - Effectively lead and mentor team of professional wildlife biologists, field technicians, and seasonal crews across the region
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct extensive owl, raptor, mammal, amphibian, and carnivore surveys (field work) and assessments in support of district goals
- Actively manage, compile, and analyze survey data for accurate reporting in coordination with various agency partners, requirements, and agreements
- Formulate and recommend policies, strategies, and plans for the development and coordination of effective wildlife program activities
- Assess and review plans and specifications for sensitive species, habitat information, biological impacts, and mitigation projects
- Manage regional invasive species programs in collaboration with other region efforts
- Manage Automated Recording Unit deployment and data processing
- Oversee the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for spotted owls and Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) / Conservation Benefit Agreement (CBA) for fisher
- Review and assess timber harvest plans for consistency with HCP, CCAA, California Forest Practices Act
- Analyze and resolve complex technical problems, effectively communicate technical information and solutions to a variety of audiences, and mentor team in best practices
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies and diverse groups
- Develop and implement successful land and wildlife management strategies that support company goals
- Appropriately manage and communicate project timelines, scopes, and established budgets
- Actively oversee and support field operations, including overnight and out-of-area project work
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology or a related natural resources field
- 8 years of directly related work experience
- Familiarity with spotted owls, goshawks, amphibians, and other wildlife species found in California and Oregon forests
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of federal and state timber and wildlife laws, rules, and regulatory requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and a positive, collaborative approach to working with others
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate a four-wheel-drive vehicle while safely navigating steep forest roads

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $95,000 to $140,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
