Job Purpose

The Quantitative Risk Analyst supports the design, development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of quantitative risk models that enable effective risk measurement, forecasting, and decision-making across Coast Capital. Working under the guidance of senior team members, this role performs detailed quantitative analyses and contributes to the development of analytical and numerical solutions that assess and monitor a variety of risk types, including credit risk, non-financial risk, stress testing, economic capital, and enterprise risk management. The incumbent leverages strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills to support model performance evaluation, risk oversight activities, and the delivery of reliable, well-documented risk models that support business objectives and regulatory requirements.

This role is hybrid remote, with occasional in-office attendance based on business needs. The role may be based out of our Surrey, BC or Toronto, ON office. The team currently meets in office approximately once per month.

Accountabilities

  • Assist senior team members in the design, development, implementation, validation, performance evaluation, maintenance, and risk oversight of quantitative risk models.
  • Support the development and maintenance of models related to stress testing, ICAAP, regulatory capital, IFRS 9, economic capital, and RAROC frameworks.
  • Perform detailed quantitative analyses using risk models and other analytical tools to support risk measurement, forecasting, and decision-making.
  • Evaluate model performance through monitoring, testing, benchmarking, and validation activities under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Prepare, maintain, and review model documentation, technical reports, governance materials, and communication packages.
  • Present findings, analysis, model performance results, and recommendations to team members and other stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance model source code and analytical tools used to support quantitative risk management activities.
  • Research and apply academic literature, industry trends, regulatory guidance, and quantitative modelling best practices.
  • Support data validation, data quality assessments, and model input reviews to ensure accuracy and integrity of modelling activities.
  • Collaborate with business partners and internal stakeholders to support risk management initiatives and analytical projects.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or another related quantitative discipline; alternatively, a diploma requiring 3-4 years of full-time study with relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in quantitative analytics, model development, financial analysis, or a related analytical role.
  • Programming experience using Python or similar analytical tools.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, quantitative modelling techniques, and analytical problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience supporting or operating quantitative models in areas such as credit risk (e.g. PD, LGD, EAD models), market risk, liquidity risk, stress testing, regulatory capital, IFRS 9, or economic capital is an asset.
  • Experience reading and interpreting financial statements is considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative and technical concepts in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn advanced quantitative modelling techniques, risk management frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
