Senior Quad Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in helping first- and second-year students navigate their academic journey while fostering a sense of belonging, exploration, and success. You'll join a collaborative community of advisors, faculty, and student support professionals dedicated to empowering students from diverse backgrounds to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
In this highly visible role, you will serve as a trusted partner to students, mentor advising colleagues, and contribute to the continued evolution of Duke's innovative quad-based advising model.
Be Bold.As the Senior Quad Advisor, you will provide comprehensive academic advising, supervise advising staff, develop student-centered programming, and collaborate with partners across the university to enhance the undergraduate experience.
What You'll DoAcademic Advising & Student Success- Serve as the primary academic advisor for first- and second-year students within assigned residential quads.
- Guide students in course selection, degree planning, curriculum requirements, major exploration, and academic goal-setting.
- Help students understand academic policies, graduation requirements, grading options, and key institutional processes.
- Support students through academic challenges and transitions by connecting them with appropriate campus resources and support services.
- Maintain accurate, confidential advising records and proactively monitor student academic progress.
- Foster student growth through developmental advising practices that encourage independence, decision-making, and self-advocacy.
- Educate students about opportunities including undergraduate research, global education, internships, and pre-professional pathways.
- Provide inclusive and holistic support that recognizes and values diverse student experiences and identities.
Leadership & Staff Development- Supervise and mentor Quad Advisors, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support.
- Assist in onboarding and training new advising professionals.
- Serve as a resource for resolving complex advising situations and promoting advising best practices.
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive advising team culture.
Quad-Based Engagement & Programming- Design and facilitate academic and community-building programs that support student success and engagement.
- Partner with faculty-in-residence, faculty fellows, peer mentors, and campus stakeholders to create meaningful educational experiences.
- Support orientation programming, workshops, and initiatives aligned with the first- and second-year student experience.
- May teach a one-credit course as part of the first-year experience or related academic success curriculum.
Institutional Collaboration- Collaborate with Academic Deans, Advising Leadership, faculty advisors, and campus partners to coordinate student support strategies.
- Maintain strong working relationships with offices across campus to ensure students receive comprehensive and timely assistance.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings, training opportunities, and university initiatives.
- Share student insights, trends, and recommendations that contribute to the continuous improvement of advising services.
- Support implementation and interpretation of academic policies and procedures.
Assessment, Innovation & Continuous Improvement- Contribute to the assessment and enhancement of advising programs and student support services.
- Participate in surveys, reporting, and feedback collection efforts.
- Stay informed about changes to academic programs, university policies, and student success initiatives.
- Serve on committees or lead special projects that advance the goals of Trinity College and Duke University.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll BringEducation- Master's degree required.
- Ph.D. preferred.
Experience- Minimum of five years of professional experience in academic advising, student affairs, higher education administration, or a related educational setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students and academic policies.

- Proficiency with student information systems, advising technologies, and virtual engagement tools.
- Knowledge of FERPA and other relevant privacy and confidentiality regulations.
Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $64,505.00 to USD $106,121.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
