Full Job Description
Senior Project Survey Coordinator

The Senior Project Survey Coordinator will serve as the day-to-day survey coordination lead for the East Harbour Transit Hub project. The role will plan and prioritize survey activities, coordinate survey subcontractors and field crews, review routine layout and as-built deliverables, and connect construction, design, quality, and project controls so survey information is timely, traceable, and suitable for construction use.
The successful candidate will initially work closely with the current Survey Manager through a structured onboarding and knowledge-transfer period. The role will operate within the project's established survey governance framework and will receive technical direction from the Survey Manager, Senior Survey Advisor, or designated survey professional for high-risk, program-level, and professional decisions.

This position is based in Toronto, Ontario.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for project survey requests and coordinate priorities with Construction Managers, Superintendents, Design, Quality, Track, Structures, Utilities, Property, and adjacent-project interface teams.
  • Prepare and maintain short-term survey look-aheads, daily work priorities, crew allocation plans, deliverable trackers, and action/risk logs aligned with the construction schedule.
  • Coordinate survey subcontractors, including staffing, access, work planning, field readiness, deliverable timing, and performance against project requirements.
  • Confirm that survey requests are supported by current IFC drawings, approved RFIs, sketches, models, specifications, tolerances, and construction sequencing before field work proceeds.
  • Review routine layout packages, field records, check shots, as-built reports, markups, and digital files for completeness, internal consistency, approved control/datum, and compliance with project procedures before distribution.
  • Track layout and as-built turnaround requirements, including the project's 24-hour layout and 48-hour as-built expectations, and escalate constraints before they affect construction.
  • Support survey coordination for structural concrete, caissons, retaining and parapet walls, bridge and deck works, utilities, station structures, permanent track, ground-disturbance limits, monitoring, and closeout activities.
  • Coordinate pre-pour and hold-point survey requirements, confirm independent checks are completed where required, and promptly communicate deviations or tolerance concerns to the responsible construction and quality teams.
  • Implement approved project control, coordinate-system, datum, and transformation requirements; arrange routine control checks and immediately escalate suspected movement, damage, network inconsistency, or interface mismatch.
  • Maintain survey equipment, calibration, verification, and issue records, and confirm that equipment and field methods are appropriate for the stated accuracy and site conditions.
  • Maintain organized and auditable survey records, including requests, calculations, field notes, raw data, reports, approvals, redlines, as-builts, control information, and handover files in the project document-control system.
  • Participate in construction, design, quality, planning, and interface meetings; provide concise survey status updates and follow issues through to documented closure.
  • Coach junior coordinators and field personnel on project procedures, documentation, checking practices, and safe execution, while promoting consistent standards across shifts and work areas.
  • Support RFIs, NCR investigations, constructability reviews, quantity/geometry checks, and corrective-action planning by assembling reliable survey evidence and clearly identifying assumptions and limitations.
  • Technical Authority and Escalation: Provide day-to-day survey coordination within approved project procedures and promptly escalate matters requiring technical direction or professional acceptance, including control-network modifications, coordinate-system discrepancies, legal/cadastral matters, non-standard survey methodologies, critical tolerance interpretations, unresolved survey conflicts, potential systemic errors, and issues with material cost, schedule, safety, or contractual impacts.

What We Are Looking For
  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, construction management, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive construction-survey experience, including at least three years on major transit, rail, bridge, heavy-civil, or complex infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple survey crews or subcontractors and supporting active construction under demanding schedule and tolerance requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of survey control, traversing and levelling, construction layout, as-built verification, deformation monitoring, coordinate systems, datums, transformations, error sources, and QA/QC checking practices.
  • Experience interpreting civil, structural, architectural, rail, utility, and property information in drawings, models, specifications, RFIs, and field instructions.
  • Proficiency with modern robotic total stations, digital levels, GNSS where appropriate, laser scanning, field data collectors, and common survey-processing workflows.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or Bentley platforms, PDF review tools, Microsoft Excel, and document-control systems.
  • CST, OLS, P.Eng., or equivalent professional/technical designation is an asset but is not required for the day-to-day coordination function.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to work on an active construction site, including occasional nights, weekends, or shift coverage when critical work requires it.
