GFT is building a pipeline of Senior Project Manager talent to join our Transit & Rail Practice or CBG Team in Toronto! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.

 

What you’ll be challenged to do:

 

The Senior Project Manager, Transit & Rail will support the delivery of major rail and transit infrastructure programs across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. The successful candidate will provide leadership for multidisciplinary teams delivering planning, design, procurement, and construction support services for commuter rail, subway, light rail, and related transportation infrastructure projects.

 

This position offers the opportunity to play a key role on some of Canada's most significant transit investments, working closely with clients, project partners, and technical specialists to achieve successful project outcomes.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as Project Manager for major rail and transit infrastructure projects, acting as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams through planning, preliminary design, detailed design, procurement, construction support, and project closeout phases.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery.Develop and maintain strong client relationships with transit agencies, municipalities, transportation authorities, and infrastructure owners.
  • Lead project governance activities, including executive reporting, steering committee presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage project financial performance, including forecasting, invoicing, contract administration, change management, and profitability.
  • Oversee preparation and review of technical deliverables, design packages, specifications, construction cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate internal and external technical disciplines, including civil, structural, utilities, systems, environmental, geotechnical, and construction services.
  • Provide strategic guidance during procurement and delivery phases for Alternative Delivery projects, including Progressive Design-Build, Design-Build, Alliance, and DBFM projects.
  • Support business development initiatives, proposal preparation, client engagement, and pursuit strategy development.Mentor junior and intermediate project managers and technical staff.Foster a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What you will bring to our firm:  
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and registration in Ontario.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience delivering rail, transit, transportation, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large multidisciplinary rail and transit projects through planning, design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Proven experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of major project delivery models including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, and DBFM.
  • Experience working with agencies and stakeholders such as Metrolinx, TTC, Infrastructure Ontario, MTO, municipalities, conservation authorities, and utility owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Experience delivering successful, profitable projects while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Experience serving as an Owner's Representative, Technical Advisor, Program Manager, or Design Manager on major rail and transit programs.
  • Direct experience on subway, commuter rail, LRT, GO Expansion, Ontario Line, SSE, YNSE, or comparable mega-projects.
  • Experience managing projects exceeding $100 million in capital value.
  • Design-build, Alliance, or other alternative delivery experience.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, proposal leadership, and client account management.
What we prefer you bring: 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $160,000.00 - $210,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.  Featured Benefits:
