REPORTS TO: Chief Family Advancement Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Project Manager, Expanded Learning Opportunities resides in the Office of Expanded Learning Opportunities within the Office of Family and Community Advancement of the Boston Public Schools, maintaining a solid-line reporting relationship to the Chief Family Advancement Officer, who provides strategic direction, establishes priorities, and conducts formal performance evaluation. The role also maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Executive Director, Expanded Learning & Strategic Leadership, who provides day-to-day supervision, operational guidance, and coordination of program implementation. The Senior Project Manager, is responsible for supporting and advancing the district's vision, mission, and goals through leading high-impact programmatic strategy, compliance oversight, and implementation across expanded learning opportunities, ensuring high-quality student participation and adherence to policy and funding requirements.

This role operates within a lean, high-impact organizational model, designed to maximize effectiveness within a constrained staffing environment while maintaining critical operational, programmatic, and compliance responsibilities. The Senior Project Manager, plays a central leadership role across expanded learning opportunities including, but not limited to, Homeschooling, Before and After School Programs, Acceleration Academies, 21st Century Programs, and 5th Quarter Summer Programs.

Work is carried out within a portfolio-based model in which team members share responsibility for advancing key Expanded Learning Opportunity workstreams. Specific ownership and roles across workstreams are determined based on organizational priorities, staff expertise, and capacity, and may shift over time to ensure effective implementation. Team members may serve in leading, co-leading, or supporting roles across portfolios while maintaining clear accountability for outcomes.

In this capacity, the Senior Project Manager ensures that workstreams are executed with precision, aligned to regulatory, grant, and district requirements, and responsive to the needs of students and families. The Senior Project Manager, provides leadership across program design, compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement, while actively contributing to the development, problem-solving, and advancement of key initiatives. This role requires the ability to operate at both a strategic and operational level, with clear ownership of program quality, compliance integrity, and implementation outcomes within assigned portfolios.

The Senior Project Manager, receives day-to-day direction from the Executive Director and aligns work with the strategic priorities established by the Chief, ensuring consistency, accountability, and high-quality implementation across programs. The Office operates in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment that requires strong collegiality, adaptability, and the ability to build and sustain relationships across departments and stakeholders. The work includes defined high-peak periods aligned to program implementation cycles, during which increased responsiveness, coordination, and cross-functional collaboration are required to ensure continuity of service and equitable access for students and families. These periods may be supported through temporary staffing, auxiliary personnel, or cross-departmental support, as determined by operational needs and available resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and manage high-priority student-centered programmatic and compliance-related workstreams across the Expanded Learning Opportunities portfolio
  • Ensure program alignment with BPS Strategic Plan and equity policies
  • Supervise cross-functional teams for initiatives in academic success positively impacting student outcomes
  • Manage ELO programming site managers
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems supporting program delivery, data tracking, and reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with district, state, and federal requirements, including grant management, reporting timelines, and program fidelity
  • Serve as a key contributor to strategic planning, aligning programmatic efforts with district priorities and student outcomes
  • Coordinate and align work across departments, schools, and external partners to ensure cohesive program implementation
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by supporting the growth and development of team members through feedback, coaching, and shared learning, strengthening both individual and collective effectiveness.
  • Lead the development and refinement of operational systems, workflows, and processes that support scalability and efficiency
  • Support and inform budget planning, tracking, procurement, and resource allocation across workstreams
  • Analyze data and performance metrics to drive decision-making, identify trends, and inform program improvements
  • Operate as a lead contributor during high-peak operational periods, ensuring responsiveness, coordination, and continuity of services
  • Work within a portfolio-based model, serving in leading, co-leading, or supporting roles across workstreams as determined by organizational priorities, staff expertise, and capacity
  • Actively contribute to cross-functional problem-solving, execution, and continuous improvement efforts across the ELO portfolio
  • Perform such other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Family Advancement Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in program management or similar role
  • Strong experience in data systems, compliance, and program coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex workstreams
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.
  • A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience in district administration
  • Experience with Expanded Learning or grant-funded programs
  • Familiarity with Boston communities and local government structures
  • Bilingual or multilingual
