Job SummaryThe Dean of the Graduate School at CU Boulder is searching for a Senior Professional Data Analyst! This role is responsible for the robust development, collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of varied complex institutional and cocurricular data sets relevant to graduate education and the strategic goals of the Graduate School. This position manages survey administration and analysis, performs data manipulation and analysis, and creates data products, reports, and dashboards.
As a senior professional level position, the incumbent is expected to apply deep understanding of theory and practice to define and solve problems of significant scope and complexity, often with non-standard solutions. The position will perform work independently and be a resource to other Graduate School team members. The role will also be expected to communicate complex concepts to individuals outside of the department.
This position will support the Graduate School in their academic mission and central initiatives, serving as a liaison between the Graduate School and the Data & Analytics team within the Office of Information Technology.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeCreate Data Strategy and Products
- Support data gathering and analysis to develop the Graduate School's overall data strategy, reworking raw data into clear, actionable insights, and providing the department with a comprehensive understanding of the data's implications for decision-making and planning.
- Design, develop, and maintain self-service data dashboards using databases, CRM systems, and Tableau that integrate multiple data sources, enabling Graduate School leadership, student services staff, and graduate programs to easily access and explore key insights.
- Lead longitudinal data collection and analysis for graduate education, including coordination of surveys, career outcomes data, and key institutional metrics to support ongoing assessment and strategic decision-making.
- Produce and maintain dashboards and reports to support graduate program assessment, student tracking, and advising, while being a central resource for data location, system integration, and effective use of institutional databases and CRM platforms.
- Design surveys or other evaluation methods to measure effectiveness of graduate school programming. Analyze results and create infographics and other materials showing program efficacy.
- Assist with development of executive summaries, slide decks, one-page infographics, and other work, providing insights for presentation of visually compelling and persuasive summaries in reports and presentations to internal and external partners. Assist with presentations, including trainings and presentations of major research/measurement findings.
- Create and maintain complex files, spreadsheets, databases, reports, queries, etc. based on stated objectives and regularly monitors and reports on the status and completion rates.
- Be the liaison between Data & Analytics and Graduate School.
Survey Administration and Analysis
- Collaborate with supervisor, project lead, and campus partners on survey design and methodology, providing guidance on standard processes and refining surveys to address needs.
- Select and apply survey methodologies to ensure valid and reliable data collection.
- Serve as the lead administrator and analyst for graduate level surveys, including managing survey setup, invitations, reminders, incentives.
- Clean and structure response data for analysis and reporting.
- Select and apply appropriate data management, analytic, and data visualization methods for surveys to interpret results.
- Assist with administration, analysis, visualization, and presentation of results of student evaluations of teaching (i.e. FCQs).
Data Manipulation and Analysis
- Engage with Data & Analytics to identify business requirements and data needs related to Graduate School requests, projects, and services.
- Identify, review, arrange, and collect data to meet Graduate School project specifications and minimize the limitations of subsequent analysis and reports.
- Curate appropriate data sets to optimize data products.
- Effectively document code, analytical methods, data sources, and project specs and statuses in the appropriate repository (e.g. GitHub, Atlassian, etc).
- Evaluate data assets to understand how existing data can inform decision-making or improve processes.
- Maintain a data governance and security approach; use appropriate documentation, controls, levels of security, and approvals on data sets, reports, and other products.
- Collaborate with data engineers to request and improve data pipelines and create integrity checks that ensure accuracy and completeness of data sets.
What You Should KnowThis position has the ability to work in a hybrid work modality, with required attendance at meetings based on existing needs. The anticipated work schedule is Monday - Friday during regular business hours.
What We Can OfferThe salary range for this position is $90,000 - $96,900 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require- A bachelor's degree in statistics, applied math, computer science, data science, or related field.
- 3 years of professional experience including:
- Developing research questions and methodologies, curating data sets, conducting analysis, and building data tools and products, and
- Using reproducible data analytics workflows, and
- Using SQL, Python, R, and/or SAS for data queries, data manipulation, and analysis, and
- Using Tableau or other data visualization tools.

- Proficiency with descriptive and exploratory data analysis, advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, casual and quasi-casual analysis, and/or natural language processing.
- Demonstrated proactive work style and creative problem-solving skills.

What We Would Like You to Have- A master's or doctoral degree in applied math, data science, statistics, computer science or related field.
- 6 years of professional experience which includes:
- Developing research questions and methodologies, conducting analyses, curating data sets, producing data reports and dashboards, and building data products and tools.
- Using reproducible data analytics workflows, including version-controlled codebases in GitHub or similar.
- Proficiency using SAS for data queries, manipulation, and analysis.
- Mastery in using Python/R and SQL for data queries, manipulation, and analysis.
- Mastery in multiple applied statistical methodologies or machine learning techniques.
- Experience with cloud computing environments and data infrastructure.
- Mastery with Tableau.
- Experience working in higher education settings, especially with intuitional data such as in an Institutional Research (IR) unit or other data related role.
- Experience working with large CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, Slate).
