What's the Role?
We are looking for a Senior UX Research Manager to lead the research team and guide product strategy for our Core Seller Experience organization.

As a Senior UX Research Manager on this team, you'll lead a talented group of UX researchers working across a range of seller-facing initiatives, partnering closely with product, design, analytics, and engineering to translate deep human understanding into meaningful product direction. You'll be both a people leader and a strategic thought partner - someone who can develop researchers, champion a high bar for research quality, and influence how the organization thinks about the seller experience at scale.

If you're motivated by work that has real impact on people's livelihoods - and by building the kind of research culture where great work thrives - this role is for you.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director, Research. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy's Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.

What's this team like at Etsy?
  • The Core Seller team at Etsy is at the heart of understanding and shaping the experience for the millions of sellers who power our marketplace. Our research informs the strategies, tools, and features that help sellers build and grow their creative businesses - and ensures their needs stay central to how Etsy evolves as a platform.
  • Our research team focuses on using research to guide the development of buyer and seller experiences in our dynamic marketplace of unique items. Our insights are part of the vernacular at Etsy and play a key role in building confidence around product decisions and our overall business strategy.

What does the day-to-day look like?
  • Lead and mentor a team of UX researchers, supporting their growth in research craft, prioritization, and career development
  • Collaborate with Core Seller leadership to shape long and short-term research strategy, ensuring the team is focused on the highest-impact questions
  • Guide researchers on study design across a wide range of generative and evaluative methods, including mixed-methods planning with quant and market research partners
  • Define and manage a research portfolio that balances foundational understanding of the seller experience with timely, evaluative insights that support product decisions
  • Communicate and socialize findings in ways that embed the seller's voice into product strategy and drive action across partner teams
  • Run your own research projects when the need arises, staying close to the work and modeling strong research practice for your team
  • Partner with other research managers to strengthen the broader team through shared tools, talent development, and knowledge-sharing
  • Recruit and hire outstanding researchers and set them up for success through a thoughtful onboarding experience
  • Contribute directly to the Research team's overall strategy and focus areas
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
  • 7+ years of experience in applied product research, ideally in a B2C or e-commerce company - experience with seller-facing products or seller tooling is a strong plus
  • 4+ years of research management experience developing and motivating a high-performing UX research team, with a genuine enjoyment of coaching others on craft and career growth
  • A track record of influencing product decision-making at a senior level, with a strong point of view and action-oriented research that moves organizations forward
  • A belief that deeply understanding your customers is a competitive advantage - and the ability to mobilize product partners around that conviction
  • The ability to balance rigor with speed-to-learning, and to guide your team in doing the same across a range of generative and evaluative methods
  • A reputation for making research land and drive change - you've developed the tools, narratives, and organizational muscle to ensure insights don't just get heard, they get acted on
  • The ability to build a culture of evidence-based decision making, bringing partners across Product, Design, Engineering, and Analytics along with you
  • A natural connector who builds trust and collaborates fluidly across functions and levels of seniority
  • A clear perspective on where the research discipline is headed - and a desire to help shape what great research practice looks like at Etsy
