Job Summary

The Senior Product Owner is a strategic leader responsible for driving outcomes across complex product domains by partnering with business leaders, IT partners, and delivery/engineering teams. This role defines and executes product strategy aligned with enterprise priorities, ensures delivery of high-value outcomes, and influences decision-making across multiple teams and stakeholders.

The Senior Product Owner owns the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for one or more enterprise platforms, ensuring clarity of priorities and a continuous flow of well-defined, value-driven work. This role operates at both strategic and tactical levels-leading discovery, shaping initiatives, managing dependencies, and guiding teams toward measurable business outcomes.

In addition, the Senior Product Owner mentors Product Owners and partners with leadership to evolve product practices, improve delivery effectiveness, and ensure alignment across portfolios. This role requires strong communication, decision-making, and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to navigate ambiguity and complex tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Planning
  • Define, evolve, and champion product vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with enterprise objectives and customer outcomes.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to shape initiatives, establish success metrics, and influence prioritization and sequencing. Drive alignment across departments to ensure EDW initiatives support enterprise reporting, analytics, data governance, and strategic decision-making objectives.
  • Anticipate risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs, providing clear recommendations to leadership.
  • Mentor and support Product Owners and cross-functional partners to improve product maturity and execution.
  • Serve as the primary Product Owner for the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), establishing and driving the product vision, roadmap, and strategic priorities.

Backlog Ownership & Prioritization
  • Own and maintain high-quality backlogs (initiatives/epics/features/stories) across complex platforms or multiple teams (Enterprise Data Warehouse and Commissions).
  • Ensure prioritization reflects business value, risk, dependencies, and capacity constraints. Evaluate and prioritize competing requests for data integrations, reporting capabilities, data quality improvements, platform enhancements, and technical modernization efforts.
  • Balance feature development, technical debt, operational needs, and innovation.
  • Define, enforce, and evolve standards including Definition of Ready, Definition of Done, intake processes, and backlog hygiene.
  • Ensure roadmap priorities are clearly communicated and understood across stakeholders, delivery teams, and leadership.

Discovery & Stakeholder Alignment
  • Lead discovery efforts to identify, validate, and articulate customer and business problems.
  • Facilitate outcome-based conversations that focus on value, tradeoffs, and measurable results.
  • Drive alignment across business units, technology teams, and leadership groups.
  • Track, analyze, and communicate product performance using meaningful metrics and insights.

Delivery Partnership
  • Partner closely with analytics teams, data engineers, and technology leadership to plan, manage flow, and optimize team effectiveness.
  • Support and adapt agile practices (Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid models) to meet product and organizational needs.
  • Act as a key decision-maker during delivery, accepting or rejecting work based on outcomes, quality, and readiness.

Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Extensive experience as a Product Owner (or equivalent role) owning strategy, prioritization, and backlog quality for enterprise platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex initiatives across multiple teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Advanced skills in backlog creation (epics, features, stories), acceptance criteria, and prioritization frameworks.
  • Proven ability to lead discovery, define outcomes, and drive alignment at both tactical and executive levels.
  • Experience with Scrum, Kanban, agile ceremonies, and scaled delivery environments; Jira experience preferred.
  • Exceptional facilitation and communication skills, including influencing senior leaders and technical/data teams.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term product health.
  • Knowledge of program, project, and change management practices.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data platforms, data warehouses, business intelligence solutions, or analytics ecosystems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data integration concepts, reporting and analytics platforms, data governance practices, and enterprise data management principles.
  • Ability to translate business reporting and analytical needs into clear, prioritized product initiatives and delivery outcomes.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.

Licensing and/or Certification
