The successful candidate will join the Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA Langley Research Center. This position reports directly to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

Independent preparation of requirements, computation/analyses, specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and technical reports for Process System designs. Selects and applies engineering techniques and procedures to analyze and evaluate specific problems, data, or other features of the work which are broad in scope and complexity. Projects are A/E multi-discipline.

Oversight of the activities of designers and drafters engaged in the design of NASA facility mechanical systems, to ensure the designs conform to recognized codes and standards and with customer requirements for a variety of government and industrial facility types.

Provide technical quality reviews and ensure adherence to Quality Control processes, Codes and Standards, ultimately resulting in the Highest Quality deliverables to NASA Langley.

Qualifications
US Citizenship required.

An ABET accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering is required. Four year mechanical engineering technology degree does not comply. The candidate must have a minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of direct experience, with core skills in process engineering design.

Direct design experience must include Process Systems for high pressure air and high pressure steam. Experience with the following is necessary:

• P&ID development
• Flexibility analysis
• Pressure drop calculations (incompressible and compressible flow)
• Relief valves (placement, inlet/outlet piping, performance, selection)
• Control valves
• Heat exchangers
• Pumps
• Steam and condensate systems
• ASME B31.1 Power Piping
• ASME B31.3 Process Piping
• Certified material test reports

Candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a team player and communicate effectively both orally and written. Is proactive, has a problem-solving attitude and effective team management skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficient in Bentley AutoPipe, RS Means Costworks

Essential Functions

Work Environment:
Office environment. (80%)

Facilities and active construction site environment. (20%)

Travel between office and various facilities within the NASA center is required.

Physical Requirements:
Limited time spent on active construction sites. Must be physically capable of walking and climbing over rough terrain and working at elevated heights and confined spaces (20%). Construction sites are commonly areas of high noise levels due to construction equipment and facility test operations (20%). Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (20%).

Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (80%) including the following typical PC Software-Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project.
Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%)

Attendance:
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (5% - 20%)
