Astera Labs is seeking a Senior Principal Product Manager to lead the strategic direction and execution of a unified management and configuration suite that sits at the critical interface between host software, firmware, and silicon across our entire portfolio of connectivity products. This is not a traditional software PM role - it requires deep technical fluency in how software communicates with and runs on chips, how firmware orchestrates silicon behavior, and how all of it comes together inside modern AI server platforms. As the owner of the product roadmap, you will drive standardization of the full-stack software and firmware experience across all Astera products, ensuring that every touchpoint - from chip-level firmware execution to the host drivers and management tools running on the server - delivers a cohesive, powerful, and scalable experience for hyperscaler and enterprise customers. This role sits at the heart of Astera's hyper-growth trajectory. As AI clusters scale from thousands to hundreds of thousands of accelerators, the need for intelligent, unified connectivity management has never been greater. You'll define how the industry's most advanced PCIe, CXL, and Ethernet connectivity silicon gets configured, monitored, and orchestrated - from embedded software running directly on the chip all the way up to the data center management plane. **Key Responsibilities** - **Product Strategy & Roadmap** - Define and own the end-to-end product roadmap for the platform, spanning embedded software running on silicon, firmware interfaces, host drivers, and server-level management tools - Drive standardization of firmware APIs, host software interfaces, and management paradigms across all Astera product lines (Aries, Leo, Taurus, and beyond) - Translate deep understanding of software-to-silicon communication models into clear product requirements and architectural direction - Conduct competitive analysis and identify opportunities to differentiate Astera's full-stack manageability story - **Customer & Market Engagement** - Engage directly with hyperscaler and enterprise platform teams - including firmware engineers, system architects, and BMC/manageability owners - to gather requirements and validate priorities - Partner with sales and field applications teams to support customer evaluations, integration discussions, and design wins - Represent Astera Labs at industry events, standards bodies, and customer technical reviews - **Cross-Functional Execution** - Collaborate with firmware and embedded software teams to define how software runs on Astera silicon and how it interfaces with host systems - Work with host software and driver teams to ensure seamless communication between server OS environments and Astera chips - Partner with hardware architecture teams to influence chip features that enable superior programmability and software-driven manageability - Coordinate with marketing on positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategies for releases - **Operational Excellence** - Define and track product adoption metrics, customer integration success indicators, and firmware/software quality KPIs - Manage release planning and feature prioritization across embedded software, firmware, driver, and tool workstreams simultaneously - Build scalable product processes that support Astera's rapid growth and expanding product portfolio **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field - 12+ years of experience in product management, technical marketing, firmware engineering, or systems engineering in the semiconductor or data center infrastructure industry - Proven experience managing or defining software products that run on and directly communicate with silicon (embedded software, firmware, chip-level tools) - Strong understanding of the full-stack interaction model: host software (drivers, OS-level tools) 194 firmware 194 embedded software running on chip - Deep familiarity with data center server architectures, platform firmware (BIOS/UEFI, BMC), and infrastructure management frameworks - Experience engaging directly with hyperscaler or enterprise platform/firmware teams on technical requirements **Preferred Qualifications** - Hands-on background in firmware development, embedded software, or chip bring-up earlier in career - with direct experience running software on silicon - Experience with connectivity technologies such as PCIe, CXL, Ethernet, or related protocols at the silicon/firmware level - Familiarity with manageability frameworks such as Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, or in-band/out-of-band management interfaces - Understanding of 800G/1.6T Ethernet, retimer/switch architectures, or rack-scale AI cluster topologies - Experience at a semiconductor company shipping embedded software and firmware tied to connectivity or infrastructure silicon - Track record of building and scaling product processes in a high-growth startup environment - MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science We know that creativity and innovation happen more often when teams include diverse ideas, backgrounds, and experiences, and we actively encourage everyone with relevant experience to apply, including people of color, LGBTQ+ and non-binary people, veterans, parents, and individuals with disabilities.
