What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Strategic Planner for our facilities team. You will play a key role in shaping long-range facilities and infrastructure strategies that enable mission success at the Sandia CA site.

On any given day you may be called on to:
  • Assess mission needs, analyze facility and infrastructure performance, and develop integrated planning products that guide future investment and modernization decisions.
  • Collaborate with mission partners, facilities engineering, operations, and business organizations to translate evolving requirements into clear, actionable strategies.
  • Use your strong analytic capability, cross-functional engagement, and the ability to connect near-term operational realities to long-range planning horizons.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$121,900 - $237,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture, Planning, or a related field plus eight or more years of relevant experience in strategic planning, facilities/infrastructure capital planning, or similar roles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate mission drivers, facility needs, and asset performance data to develop integrated long-range plans.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information into concise, leadership-ready recommendations.
  • Ability to take initiative and translate vision into robust action plans and follow through to completion.
  • Advanced engineering or architecture degree.
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license in the State of California.
  • Track record of successful delivery of complex, large-scale projects with numerous stakeholders from concept through construction.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments that require balancing broad and varied stakeholder needs.
  • Experience with project management approaches, collaborating across multiple technical and operational groups, and all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of master planning, capability stewardship, and infrastructure investment strategies.
  • Familiarity with DOE/NNSA environments and federal long-range planning processes.


About Our Team

The Partnership and Planning Department supports the mission by establishing long range planning & investment strategies and implementation plans. The team develops and maintains effective strategic customer partnerships and integrates F&I plans into the investment and planning strategies. The team also provides space management, condition, and energy assessments of the facilities and site infrastructure.

About Sandia National Laboratories

The Sandia National Laboratories is one of three National Nuclear Security Administration research and development laboratories in the United States, managed and operated privately by the National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia. Their primary mission is to develop, engineer, and test the non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons and high technology. In December 2016, it was announced that National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia, under the direction of Honeywell International, would take over the management of Sandia National Laboratories starting on May 1, 2017.
