Full Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer to join our Client Platform group passionate about software dedicated to power management, thermal regulation, and performance optimization. This senior technical leadership role requires experience leading and achieving objectives related to energy optimization and cooling solutions software on sophisticated SoC-based platforms. The candidate will work from architecture through productization. The role involves influencing engineering, SoC partners, Ecosystem partners, OEM partners, and internal leadership to align efforts.

The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of deep technical depth and broad interpersonal influence.

What You Will Be Doing:

Technical Architecture & Problem Solving
  • Architect and implement SoC power and thermal control software modules
  • Establish the architecture of software addressing power and thermal management for next-generation platforms, informed by lessons learned from current-generation productization.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex, multi-team Power/Thermal issues.
  • Define SW corrective action plans based on SOC/Platform findings and ensure they are gathered and accomplished in future product generations.

Program Execution & Power/Thermal Goal Ownership
  • Own end-to-end software work you're doing addressing power usage and thermal control for a Client SoC product line
  • Drive platform power and thermal goals across the full software stack, coordinating across SoC partner firmware, kernel/driver teams, and OEM-facing SW.
  • Maintain program-level tracking of Power/Thermal software status, risks, and mitigations; communicate clearly and proactively to engineering leadership.

Multi-functional Leadership & Partner Management
  • Serve as the primary SW technical interface to SoC partners on Power/Thermal topics - driving joint architecture decisions and maintaining alignment.
  • Collaborate with ecosystem partners on next gen Power/Thermal SW features
  • Partner with OEM engineering teams to resolve platform-level power and thermal.
  • Represent the Power/Thermal SW team in leadership reviews, program syncs, and executive communications.

What We Need to See:
  • 12+ years of industry experience in system software, with at least 5+ years focused on SoC or platform power management software.
  • Deep expertise in SoC/GPU/CPU power management: C-states, SOC low power states, DVFS, power gating, clock gating, SOC/Platform power limits.
  • Consistent track record of owning and delivering Power/Thermal software goals on a real product - from pre-silicon architecture through post-launch optimization.
  • Strong multi-functional leadership skills: proven ability to align engineering teams, SoC/silicon partners, OS/platform vendors, and OEM partners around common goals.
  • Proficiency in C; solid background in operating system internals, device drivers, real-time embedded OS, and low-level HW/SW interfaces.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - able to distill complex technical tradeoffs for engineering leadership and business partners.
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Ways to Stand Out from the Crowd:
  • Extensive experience of SOC Power and Thermal management SW experience
  • Experience with Linux & Windows platform power management
  • Prior cross-company partnership on power architecture -defining firmware/SW power interfaces.
  • Familiarity with platform telemetry pipelines for Power/Thermal monitoring and selfhost/battery life data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of ROP (Rest-of-Platform) power optimization
