Job Overview

The Senior Portfolio Planner within the Strategic Portfolio Management team is responsible for ensuring the capture and management of data supporting a ~$250M yearly IT & Digital investment portfolio delivering both strategic and tactical efforts. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the digital portfolio management tools and processes to enable the effective oversight of all initiatives. This role involves making informed decisions and recommendations based on critical data analysis and requires strong critical thinking skills to solve complex challenges and ensure portfolio alignment with organizational goals. Additionally, this role facilitates the portfolio demand intake and resource management processes by collaborating with several stakeholder groups including IT, the Transformation Office, Finance, and other business partners to ensure the portfolio is aligned with business objectives, provide critical insights for decision-making, and drive transparency and accountability across projects, programs, and investments.

Job Responsibilities:

Opportunity Management
  • Establish processes, procedures and governance controls to facilitate the capture of "crowd sourced" improvement opportunities.
  • Effectively communicate the process through which opportunities will be vetted and approved or deferred
  • Ensure we have full lifecycle process transparency from ideation through demand and ultimately into execution and delivery where appropriate


Demand Management
  • Establish processes, procedures and governance controls to facilitate the analysis and disposition of "Demands" within the Strategic Portfolio Management Platform.
  • Partner with peers and internal customers to ensure demand records are fully attributed and correctly align to organizational objectives and priorities
  • Provide transparency into the status of all demands at all times ensuring stakeholders are aware and aligned with disposition of their sponsored initiatives


Scenario, Portfolio, & Roadmap Planning
  • Through the lens of organizational priorities and resources constraints, develop scenarios which are most likely to produce the greatest value for the organization
  • Taking direction from the Transformation Office and other functional leaders, make updates to the active portfolio plans ensuring they align with stakeholder expectations
  • Manage the overall delivery RoadMap as necessary to facilitate cross-organization alignment to anticipated resource and capacity requirements to fulfill the planned work


Resource & Capacity Management
  • Partner with resource managers to ensure planning data provides necessary information for proactive capacity planning
  • Leveraging the forecasting tools within the portfolio planning system, escalate projected capacity issues to appropriate leadership
  • Regularly assess process performance and champion continuous improvement initiatives as necessary to achieve optimal performance


Training and Support
  • Provide training and support to team members and stakeholders on the use of portfolio management tools and methodologies
  • Develop and maintain user guides, documentation, and resources effective for tool utilization

Required Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. or combination of education and related work experience
  • 5 years proven experience in portfolio, program, or project administration, preferably within a strategic or digital environment
  • Proficiency in portfolio management tools (e.g. ServiceNow SPM or similar platforms)
  • Experience training others
  • Experience developing processes, procedures and governance controls
  • Demonstrated analytical critical thinking skills for process development or problem resolution
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Adaptability and a proactive approach to managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. in Business Administration, IT, Project Management, or related field
  • 7 years Experience working within a Strategic Portfolio Management function
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in creating dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI or similar platforms
  • Certification in portfolio, program, or project management (e.g., PfMP, PMP, or equivalent)
  • Certified Implementation Specialist (ITSM or other modules)
  • ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions.
