The Team

KFF has deep expertise based on our research and analysis of the Medicare program and the population of seniors and people with disabilities it covers.

Your Role

KFF is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to develop and lead research and analysis related to Medicare policy, including Medicare spending and financing, Medicare Advantage, and Medicare Part D and prescription drug policy. Working closely with their direct supervisor and the rest of the Medicare team, the Senior Policy Analyst will guide research projects related to Medicare policy from ideation to publication on the KFF website.

What You'll Do
  • Maintain active knowledge and awareness of the Medicare program to inform ongoing policy discussions and generate new ideas for research that examines the impact of federal Medicare policy on Medicare beneficiaries.
  • Develop and lead research projects on a range of Medicare policy issues to provide timely, fact-based, policy-relevant data and information for policymakers, the media, and the public, by analyzing data, interpreting findings, creating visuals, and writing briefs for publication on kff.org.
  • Present work clearly and maintain the highest standards of quality, accuracy, trust, and integrity.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with other team members in conducting policy analysis, and in the preparation of briefs, data visualizations, and other KFF products.
  • Engage with external communications by responding to inquiries from the media, policymakers, stakeholders, and others in the policy community; presenting KFF analysis at meetings; disseminating findings and policy insights on social media.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues through open communication and engagement in person and virtually (email, Teams, Zoom, Slack).


Minimum Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Knowledge of Medicare and the key issues and agencies at the forefront of policymaking in this area preferred.
  • Graduate degree (master's or PhD) in health economics, health policy, public policy, public administration, business, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the government or health care/health sector industry, research, or consulting roles. Years studying for a relevant graduate degree could potentially substitute in part for work experience.
  • Fluency and familiarity with health care data analysis, research methods, and statistical and economic concepts, and ability to work collaboratively with data analysts to design and conduct research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and clearly communicate data analysis and research findings for non-technical audiences in writing and data visualizations.
  • Experience analyzing survey data, claims data, and/or other administrative data sources using R and/or SAS.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage concurrent projects and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, able to write clearly and succinctly, incorporating and responding to constructive written feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

This full-time position will be based in KFF's Washington, D.C. office, located downtown near Metro Center (preferred) or in KFF's San Francisco headquarters. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of two days a week.

Compensation

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes an outstanding benefits package equivalent in value to approximately fifty percent of base salary including a generous and immediately vested defined contribution plan and zero-premium health coverage.

The annual salary range for the Senior Policy Analyst position is between $95,000 and $125,000. Our job titles and salary ranges may span more than one career level, and the salary offered to a candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, job-related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees, and our practice of upholding salary equity within the organization.
