Full Job Description
NOTE: This is a senior level position. Please pay close attention to the qualifications listed below before applying.

We're looking for the right combination of leadership, distinctive vision, editorial judgment, editing skills, ability to lead and manage a project, and high emotional intelligence. The Senior Producer will work with us on Spirit of Justice, a new audio and video podcast hosted by Michelle Alexander exploring the spiritual lives of people committed to justice and liberation and the beliefs, practices, and sources of wisdom that sustain them in these perilous times.

The Senior Producer will have a love for great storytelling and a particular talent for creating thoughtful, intimate conversations that invite reflection rather than easy answers. You will have the ability to understand and protect a distinctive editorial vision while bringing fresh thinking to its development and execution. You are intellectually curious, emotionally perceptive, comfortable with complexity and ambiguity, and skilled at helping hosts and guests get beyond familiar talking points to stories, experiences, and ideas that feel honest, surprising, and deeply human.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This is not an entry-level position. It is a senior leadership and editorial position. Please don't waste either of our time by applying unless you have considerable experience as a senior leader on a podcast team.

The Senior Producer will serve as the lead producer of Spirit of Justice, working closely with host Michelle Alexander, Magnificent Noise leadership, and our production partners to shape and execute the editorial vision of the show. This person will lead the day-to-day creative and production process across both audio and video, from developing guests and guiding questions through recording, editing, and dsitribution.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional editorial thinker and storyteller who knows how to create the conditions for revealing, emotionally honest conversations. You are comfortable working with complex ideas without reducing them to easy answers, and know how to find the personal stories and lived experiences that make those ideas meaningful to an audience. You will be an important creative partner to Michelle, helping prepare her for interviews, developing the show's interviewing approach, and shaping each conversation into an episode that feels intimate, thoughtful, and purposeful.

This is also a leadership role. The Senior Producer will manage production workflows and timelines, coordinate the people involved in making the show, and ensure that Spirit of Justice is produced consistently at a high editorial and production standard. You should be equally comfortable thinking about the larger creative direction of the show and solving the practical problems required to get an ambitious audio-and-video podcast made.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Hold the lead editorial and production role on Spirit of Justice, working with Magnificent Noise leadership to shape and protect the creative vision of the show.
  • Lead editorial planning, including developing episode ideas and guiding questions and identifying, evaluating, and booking guests.
  • Serve as a close creative partner to and advocate for host Michelle Alexander, preparing her for interviews, coaching and developing her as a host, and helping her get the most from each conversation.
  • Lead the project team through the production and editing of each episode, shaping interviews into thoughtful, compelling stories while preserving the intimacy, complexity, and unhurried quality that define the show.
  • Set production timelines and manage a team and workflow that consistently delivers episodes on time and on budget.
  • Oversee production across both audio and video, working with technical and video production staff to ensure recordings meet the creative and technical needs of both formats.
  • Lead interview and recording logistics, including studio, remote, and potential on-location recordings, and ensure guests are prepared and comfortable with the production process.
  • Record interviews and other material when needed and demonstrate a strong understanding of microphones, recording equipment, studios, remote recording platforms, and techniques for capturing high-quality audio and video.
  • Edit and/or direct the editing of interviews and segments and be able to work directly with digital audio and video when needed, while effectively directing and giving notes to editors and other post-production collaborators.
  • Coordinate all aspects of production, post-production, quality control, and program distribution across audio and video platforms.
  • Work side-by-side with our production partners, approaching them not as clients to be managed but as deep collaborators and trusted creative partners.
  • Mentor colleagues with grace and a generosity of spirit, and create a collaborative environment in which producers and other creative contributors can do their best work.
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, and other creative partners to uphold Magnificent Noise's production, editorial, and storytelling standards.
  • "Think deep" and produce work that needs to exist in the world.
  • Other duties as assigned.
