Overview

The Senior Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer (Designer) position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group's quickly growing Philadelphia area team out of Conshohocken, PA. Together we are sharing knowledge, learning, growing, and continuing to be an integral part of supporting PM Group's ongoing expansion in the US. The office is executing cutting-edge projects for Pharmaceutical, Biologics and Cell & Gene Therapy, manufacturing facilities - from feasibility through to qualification - for both local and international clients. Together with our clients and partners, we will deliver projects that improve the everyday lives of people across the globe.

This is a client facing position that will require the ability to inspire confidence in staff as well as from 1st client contact through proposal preparation and project execution. The ability to motivate and mentor others in a dynamic growing office environment is required. Proven project and design delivery in complex facilities (life sciences / biopharma / cell & gene therapy / pharmaceutical) is required.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:
  • Coordination of all plumbing and fire protection activities needed to achieve project deliverables
  • Delivery of agreed design scope within budget hours and schedule
  • Technically proficient in general utility systems (e.g., plumbing and waste)
  • Ability to work with Riser Diagrams and P&IDs while having experience with creation / modification of drawings to existing stringent BIM/CAD standards
  • Strong communication and advanced Revit/AutoCAD skills
  • Experience coordinating with other disciplines (e.g., MEP coordination), including the use of Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks or other programs to resolve design conflicts
  • Ability to work closely with Architects, Mechanical and Process Engineers as well as other internal and external team members

Typical areas of design responsibility include:
  • Knowledge of all aspects of plumbing and fire protection systems including Sanitary and Vent Systems, Storm Systems, Process Waste Systems, Lab and Vent Systems, Domestic Water Systems, Process and Lab Gas Systems, Sprinkler Design, Wet/Dry/Pre Action Systems and Fire Water Containment. Must be able to produce calculations for the above systems
  • Visiting project sites to analyze existing conditions and/or oversee construction of the plumbing systems
  • Developing plumbing schematics / one-line riser diagrams
  • Selecting and creating fixture schedules
  • Developing / editing of Plumbing specifications
  • Developing Fire Protection Zoning Plans, Code Analysis and Performance Specifications
  • Setting up project drawings and picking up drawing edits/redlines
  • Material takeoffs in support of estimating activities
  • Executing construction administration activities
  • Attend project design team meetings and project review meetings
  • Ensuring that all documents and designs meet QMS criteria
  • Liaise and coordinate with other disciplines within the USA offices, within other PM Group offices, and with external consultants

Qualifications

  • 7+ Plus years of experience in an A/E design firm setting required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred
  • Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) certification is a strong plus
  • Ability to understand and interpret Fire Protection Codes (NFPA 13 & 20 at a minimum)
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, including AutoCAD MEP is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Self-motivated and self-organized, reliable, consistent, and mature approach to work
  • Clear, positive, and collaborative oral and written communication skills with clients and team members
  • A robust ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection, and business as well as a commitment to sustainable design
  • Ability to play a positive role in a multi-disciplined team and a drive to improve existing ways of working by finding efficiencies in processes
