Full Job Description
The Senior Plant Designer owns the physical design of Voyager's new chemical manufacturing facilities across the lifecycle of planning, construction, commissioning, and sustaining. This is not a role where you hand off a drawing package and move on but rather one where you will develop designs alongside the chemical engineers defining the process, technicians building the process, and operators running the process. With multiple facilities for oxidizers, energetic materials, and energetic precursors planned in Colorado and Louisiana in the coming years, this is a long-term design ownership position rather than a single project assignment.

The position reports to the Chief Engineer and is part of the Chemicals and Explosives Team. This role is based in Penrose, CO with a shift to Pueblo, CO expected within the next year. The two sites are about 40 miles apart and within the same Colorado Springs/Pueblo commuting area. The role is fully onsite for the first three months to build familiarity with our processes, equipment, and team after which a hybrid schedule of up to two remote days per week is typically supported.

In this role, the essential functions are:
  1. Developing equipment arrangements and floor plan drawings that support efficient material and personnel flow, maintenance access, and code compliance
  2. Routing process piping and utility distribution (including water, steam, chilled glycol, and compressed air) based on specifications provided by the engineering team
  3. Developing and maintaining a controlled P&ID set for the facility, including consistent drafting standards and revision control
  4. Developing and maintaining the master equipment list and line list tied to the P&IDs.
  5. Coordinating with civil, architectural, and electrical disciplines and reconciling vendor equipment drawings to ensure a coherent plant drawing set
  6. Supporting construction and commissioning through field walkdowns, redline capture, and as-built drawing issuance
  7. Maintaining current and accurate drawings to support process hazard analyses (PHA), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and management of change (MOC)

Basic Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in industrial process plant design
  • Experience developing equipment layouts and pipe routing using P&IDs, equipment lists and drawings, and piping material specifications as source documents
  • Experience independently producing and revising P&IDs for industrial facilities
  • Experience developing flexible utility distribution layouts for steam, water, compressed air, or similar plant utilities
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or an equivalent 2D drafting platform
  • Experience applying drawing numbering, revision control, and document control practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written, verbal, and presentation channels while explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience taking a greenfield facility from design through construction, startup, and as-built documentation
  • Experience with 3D plant design software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx, or OpenPlant

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:
  • Travel up to 20%, including the possibility of overnights particularly to Minden, Louisiana area
  • Ability to lift, move or carry items or equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform detailed visual work at a computer workstation for extended periods
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and unconditioned manufacturing spaces
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including
    • Be 21 years of age or older
    • Pass pre-employment drug test and health screening
    • Pass State and Federal background checks

The good-faith base salary range for this role is $90,000-$125,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location.
