Full Job Description
Reporting to the Leader of Utilities Infrastructure Planning (UIP), you will support strategic planning and complex analysis for Water, Wastewater and Stormwater infrastructure planning related to City and Regional growth. This role is expected to lead/manage major, complex water projects, and review, coordinate and consolidate technical input from utility groups across departments to support key initiatives. Primary duties include:

  • Provide oversight, direction, and lead coordination on key infrastructure planning initiatives, including Area Structure Plans (ASPs), Growth Applications (GAs), Local Area Plans (LAPs), Outline Plans (OPs), and capital prioritization.
  • Initiate, lead and manage complex projects and initiatives including the preparation or business cases, stage-gating processes, construction agreements, and technical handovers to the Utilities Delivery Group or the Project Development Group.
  • Contribute to committee and Council reports on matters related to utilities infrastructure planning.
  • Enhance practices, standards, and procedures for work undertaken by the UIP team.
  • Support communication with the BILD (Building, Industry and Land Development), regulators, and other parties regarding changes to the review/approval processes and design criteria related to utilities infrastructure planning, in support of land development and city-building objectives.
  • Provide oversight, coaching, mentoring, and direction to junior staff in their interactions with parties, including the public, customers, and other City departments, while creating a clear line of sight that connects team outcomes with broader city-building initiatives.


Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details .
  • Strong technical knowledge of water, sanitary and/or stormwater systems is required.
  • Strong project management skills will be considered an asset.
