What You'll Do

Reporting to the Director of Design/University Architect, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Review design and construction plans for construction and renovation projects to verify compliance with the university design standards, constructability, biddability, and applicable codes. Communicate identified discrepancies to U-M design managers.
  • Travel both on and off campus, to perform field verifications of existing conditions to inform plan reviews.
  • Participate in meetings, and training to maintain expertise and consult with peers and subject matter experts.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in architectural, engineering or construction field or credentials showing successful completion of a certified skilled trade apprenticeship program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in architectural, engineering, or construction industry.
  • Experience conducting detailed plan reviews, site inspections and preparing related reports.
  • Knowledge of building systems, construction methods, materials building standards, building codes, life safety, and accessibility.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications and software programs.
  • Valid driver's license.
