Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Senior Philanthropy Director - Gift Planning for Trinity Health – Southeast Michigan  will lead the strategy, design, and implementation of a comprehensive gift planning program (planned gifts, endowment, restricted funds, etc), reporting to the Regional VP of Philanthropy.

  • The Senior Director will compliment an existing spirit of collaboration, along with serving as a leader and senior fundraiser on the philanthropy team.

  • This person will generate philanthropic support from an assigned prospect portfolio and will cultivate and support long term relationships with donors and partner with colleagues to maximize philanthropic support through the creative and effective use of gift planning strategies.

  • Additionally, this professional will supervise the Individual Giving team, ensuring that prospects and donors are engaged in ways that build the major and planned giving donor/prospect pipeline.    


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education:   Requires bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar field, with specialized training in philanthropy.

  • Experience:  Seven or more years’ experience in major gift and charitable gift planning. 

  • Preferred qualifications: Leadership experience with professional organizations such as the Planned Giving Round Table, National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, or Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. Demonstrated success working within a healthcare system.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Design a gift planning program, including types of gifts, gift thresholds to establish funds with Trinity Health, donor documentation, and education to the department of philanthropy and beyond.

  • Author a gift planning program guide for the office of philanthropy.  

  • Establish a volunteer network of estate planning, wealth advisory, and other allied professionals to grow awareness of the Trinity Health program to their clients and associates.

  • Lead and manage the digital vendor(s) that builds and executes strategies to support gift planning (website, digital postings, online campaigns, etc).

  • Oversee and coach Individual Giving team to grow the donor pool and monitor processes used to move annual and mid-level donors to the major and planned gift prospect pool.   

  • Participate on the Grateful Patient and Family Taskforce to enhance the program design to include planned and blended gifts.

  • Provide training and education to the Major Gifts team, executive leadership, and board/volunteers to increase their understanding and awareness of gift vehicles available via the gift planning program as needed or requested.

  • In partnership with the Director of Donor Stewardship, design a regional stewardship program for endowment and planned giving donors, designed to inform, inspire, and grow giving, ensuring these special donors feel connected to the mission of Trinity Health, SE Mich.

  • Use industry leading practices to recommend a structure for gift planning goals and metrics. Upon approval of the VP, utilize the Blackbaud database to design and implement a planned giving program report that showcases both goals and progress of the overall gift planning program.
